interlocking directorates in the corporate world . . . his charts, which were stunning, depicted the myriad of lines connecting one corporation to others, one individuals to innumerable corporations -- and the entirety of it consisted of a very small number of very wealthy and very influential persons who, for all intents and purposes, exercised absolute control over the corporate world . . .
now, almost40 years later, the interlocking directorates control not only private corporations, but the public sector -- the government -- as well . . . so much so that their lobbyists actually write the laws intended to regulate their industries . . . all while Members of Congress and Senators live like kings and devote the vast majority of their time not to governing, but to raising money for their re-election campaigns . . . and the bulk of that money comes from the very same corporations that write the laws and determine the nature of the social contract . . .
the bottom line for corporations is, by law, their bottom line and their returns for investors . . . everything else -- job security, benefits, health insurance, pensions, job safety, environmental protection -- is being sacrificed at the altar of corporate profits . . . the one exception being, of course, executive compensation . . .
elected representatives cannot serve two masters . . . if they're beholden to their corporate overseers, they cannot possibly do what's right for the American people . . . and this, more than anything, is what must change if we are ever to save out nation from economic and social ruin . . .
which is why we need a presidential candidate willing to break the link and refuse any and all corporate money . . . and thus preserve his or her freedom to actually tell Americans the truth about what's happening to our country . . .
