Iraqi Shiites becoming Republicans...
The following is from p. 9 of the Jan. 27, 2006 issue of the periodical, "The Week" (c)2006 The Week Publications, Volume 6, Issue 243:

BAGHDAD
Shiites renege on deal: The top Shiite leader in Iraq said this week that Sunnis will not be allowed to try to amend the constitution, as they had been promised. The Sunnis last year threatened to boycott the referendum on the constitution, which gives Shiites and Kurds control over most of Iraq's oil. To mollify the Sunnis, top Shiites agreed that the new parliament, which was elected in December with Sunni support, would have the right to change the document. But now the Shiites have backpedaled, "We will stop anyone who tries to change the constitution," said Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, head of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq. Some analysts said that if al-Hakim sticks to that position, Sunnis might abandon the political process altogether and opt for civil war.

--------------------------------------

We keep hearing about "Democracy being on the march," in the Middle-east, which is claimed will make the U.S. safer. Well, let's see...Shiite led govt. in Iraq which will now be more ameniable to relations with Iran. Iran, we are told, is gearing up its nuclear program, its new "democratically" elected president calling for the destruction of Israel. Democratic elections took place in Palestine this week; the big winners: HAMAS.

Everybody feel safer now?

As the old saying goes: "Be careful what you wish for; you might just get it!"

In the dark, dark recesses of the PNAC-ers brain this is probably what they wanted. Let them have their "democracy" which will result in the total destabilization of the ME and :nuke:. :scared:
