religopolitics??? GREAT letter >>>> read on
Two extremes
Today in red states, it seems the extremes of politics marry the extremes of religion. There was a time when Republicans were defined by their fiscal conservatism and Democrats as the party of spend, spend, spend. These stereotypes no longer exist. From a Democratic administration of a zero deficit we have moved to a Republican president and Congress responsible for red ink that flows like the blood from a mortally wounded animal.
Whether it is through faith-based social services or school vouchers, the ideologues of the extreme religious right are attempting to convert a government representing people of all religions and no religion into a theocracy of their exclusive beliefs. It is impossible for me to accept this brand of extreme religopolitics.
