My son's elementary class held a mock congressional hearing
last night.

When asked the question "Do you think it is okay for the president to wiretap American citizens without a warrant?" one of the kids said "no, I do not think it is right."

Being only twelve, the kid didn't really have anything else to add but I had to endure a Rethuglican idiot behind me for the rest of the evening saying "I don't think it's right for them to fly airplanes into buildings either, do you?"

I wanted to turn around and beat the guy about the head, but instead I turned to my daughter and loudly whispered into her ear "Careful there's a RETHUGLICAN behind us!" He obviously heard me, as did several other people around me because he only got louder and more adamant after that and had a hard time looking at me after the event was over. Everyone else clapped rather loudly after the kid gave his answer. I don't know if it was to drown out the idiot or not but it was clear that they agreed with the kid.

This was supposed to be just a review of a unit on how our government works and this guy had to interject his political beliefs all over it. I felt sorry for the kids and the parents who had to listen to this guy spew crap.

I have to admit, I was expecting something of this nature given the fact I live in a fairly Red state so I prepared myself before hand by listening to Bill Mauer on a pod cast while waiting for the event to begin but it wasn't loud enough for anyone else to hear!

2. I'm glad most people clapped
I live in a red state too, and have republican friends who are appalled with the domestic spying. I wish one of those people had been there so they could have confronted the repuke and told him he was NOT a Republican, but one of those extremists who wish to take over our country and destroy our Constitutional rights. I would remind him that even when 20,000 Americans were killed over 2 days at Antietem during the Civil War, Lincoln didn't destroy the Constitution and try and become a dictator.

4. I saw that article
and I'm wondering if it isn't more spin. Realize, too, that the Republicans I know tend to not like Bush, either, because of his reckless fiscal policy and his foreign adventures. I think they are what one would call classic conservatives, with some veering towards Libertarian.

5. You are absolutely right. He's not a Republican he's a ReTHUGlican
and that's why I used that particular term.

I have found that for the most part NO ONE wants to be wiretapped illegally and there is a huge difference between a Republican and a Rethuglican.

I may not agree with Republican philosophy but I do know they are not all completely outrageous.

6. Another 'law and order' type I'm guessing.
These repubs have truly perfected the art of hypocrisy.

I guess he's using the repub logic that says as long as it's a repub president two wrongs make a right.

How about the concept that flying a plane into a building AND illegally wiretapping your own citizens are both wrong. Especially considering the fact that wiretapping wasn't even necessary to stop the former. All bunnypants had to do was read the report that said "Bin Laden determined to strike in the U.S.", but he was to busy taking vacations. Dipshit.

I live in a red state too so I can totally empathize. I can practically picture this fool as I see them all the time where I live.
