Coulter Jokes Justice Should Be Poisoned
Burt Worm Jokes Coulter Should Be Garroted.

http://www.salon.com/wire/ap/archive.html?wire=D8FD58A01.html

January 27,2006 | LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Conservative commentator Ann Coulter, speaking at a traditionally black college, joked that Justice John Paul Stevens should be poisoned.

Coulter had told the Philander Smith College audience Thursday that more conservative justices were needed on the Supreme Court to change the current law on abortion. Stevens is one of the court's most liberal members.

"We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens' creme brulee," Coulter said. "That's just a joke, for you in the media."

Coulter has made a career of writing and lecturing on her strongly conservative views.

116. No, it's WORSE. RW nutcases may not be able to get their hands on a
nuclear bomb, but they sure can get a gun. Justice Stevens already must know he was living under a threat of assassination by RW extremists who wanted him eliminated from the SCOTUS. Now it's out in the open and it could well happen. Justice Stevens and his family have to live with that every day.

As for the nutcases, they excuse everything they do as "the will of god." Doubtless they will portray Justice Stevens to themselves as a godless baby-killer who must be executed for the advancement of their twisted form of religion. Religious extremists are capable of absolutely ANYTHING.

Coulter and her masters know all this. This was nothing less than a call for assassination and she knows it.

138. Some things aren't jokes...
It just seems to me that joking about assassination over coffe is different than joking about assassination on a major tv or cable outlet, or in a speach.

The irony is that rw'ers like coulter emphasize 'treason' and are NOT absolutists about free speach/civil liberties...

I share with them a concern about treason (public endorsement of assassination), and a concern about those relativists who would hide behind claims of libertarian absolutist rhetoric about free speach 'rights' to rally extremists/incite mobs/round up scapegoats....

There is a definite lack of morality on the right. Coulter is a very toxic moral relativist, up there with Savage, Limbaugh, Fallwell and Robertson, that's for sure.

Ironic, definitely ironic. But not funny ironic. Scary ironic.

9. And why is that not happening? Her insane rant about Justice Stephens
is a threat to his safety. There are lunatics out there who may decide she wants him to go ahead and do it.

Several attacks on judges were in the news for a while last year ~ she should be repremanded, and at the very least fined for even making a joke about assassinating a judge. That at least would show any loony who might take her seriously, that this is serious business.

I remember Sen. Daschle finally so outraged by the hate speech directed at him, going to the floor of the Senate and stating that his family had received bomb threats as a result of the hate speech of Rush Limbaugh. It was a very passionate speech, and as I recall, he had had to ask for protectiong. This is simply not tolerable any more ~ these people are not amusing, they are dangerous. If this were done by a child, they would be instantly repremanded. Why is she allowed to get away these statements that are a definate threat to public figures, imo.

"We should round up all the liberals and put a bullet in the back of their heads", another Coulter joke, until you replace the word "liberals" with "gays" or "blacks" or "asian americans".

She's an attention whore. If you ignore her she'll just get shriller and more absurd until someone finally notices her again, and then claim it was hyperbole and that she's the one who is being persecuted.

She gets the Golden Human Turd award from me, along with her close friend Fred Phelps.

It's the right wing sense of humour. Their deaths were just the setup for her punchline. Why, the reason Chimpy sent 2200+ soldiers to their deaths was only to set up his little "Where are the WMD's?" gag.

"Nope. Not under here."

(Audience laughs.)

They are soulless sociopaths without compassion. The pain and suffering of others amuses them.

My mom lived through Nazi Germany as a child. Hadd her home bombed to smitherines by the Allies and had her leg amputated because she had to leave her home and walk for weeks in the snow to a new residence. This gave her frostbite and later gangrene during her pregnancy with me at which point she had to have her leg amputated in order to save my life.

She used to just fly off the handle when she heard assholes being all gung ho for war. She had no patience for anybody who had no idea of the horors of was rushing into a conflict.

In addition to all that, my father died when I was sevn as a result of injuries sustained in Vietnam. Just hardened her resistance to war and later as an adult mine too!

One day the energy she has created with these words is going to come back ten-fold. :scared: None of her friends, her money or her position as the GOP party doll will save her sorry ass then.

104. Wonder what the college's founders would think:
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 10:08 PM by TWriterD
"Officially founded in 1877, Philander Smith College is the result of one of the early attempts to make education available to freedmen (former African-American slaves) west of the Mississippi River. The forerunner of the College was Walden Seminary, named in honor of Dr. J. M. Walden, one of the originators and the first Corresponding Secretary of the Freedmen's Aid Society. Miss Helen Perkins served as Principal of the institution during the early years.

In 1876, the General Conference of The Methodist Episcopal Church authorized the creation of an annual conference for Negro preachers in the State of Arkansas with the power to promote schools. The new body was named the Little Rock Annual Conference (later the Southwest Annual Conference). In 1877, this annual conference designated Walden Seminary as its official educational institution.

The Seminary was located at Eighth Street and Broadway in the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church. The first Conference Trustees of the new school, elected in 1878, were: Ministers I. G. Pollard, W. O. Emory, G. W. Sams, W. H. Crawford, A. J. Phillips, L. W. Elkins and Laymen A. L. Richmond, William La Porte and Frank Carland.

Philander Smith College has a rich Christian heritage. It has maintained a close relationship with the Church across the years. It acknowledges a definite obligation to The United Methodist Church. The College receives funding from The General Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry of The United Methodist Church. It is also the only institution in Arkansas affiliated with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF)."

http://www.philander.edu/history.aspx

Does poisoning Supreme Court justices fit in with the college's "rich Christian heritage"? Inviting a conservative to speak is one thing, but Coulter contributes nothing but name-calling and threats. I guess many are still stuck in junior high, and unfortunately, they're voting.

Ann, I hope you stop and read posts here from time to time just to see what "the loony left" is saying. Well here's a little something you can rattle around in your otherwise empty head. "Ann, your pitiful attempts at "humor" betray what's really on your mind. You're a sick individual, destined to die a lonely, bitter woman. No man wants you. Correction, maybe a few would for a half hour or so to satisfy some primitive, twisted need for a necrophilia fantasy. You're a joke yourself, "Ann the unloved". Doe eyes and blond hair will only get you so far in life and you've reached your terminus. It's all downhill for you from now on and you know it. No one takes anything you say seriously, you're a carnival freak, a geek biting the heads off chickens. Have a little self-respect and fade into black. No one will miss you."

24. I say we
apply the same standard to the Justices that decided Bush v. Gore. Only I want it to be public and gory. Those treasonus bastards have inflicted so much damage upon us they don't deserve to wear the robe. In a previous post I asked if anyone knew the process for Impeachment of a Supreme court Justice. To date no replies. I will not get over it. I will continue to rail for the public tar and feathering of Scalia, Thomas, and all of the rest. Take that Ann.

27. It's the same as for the Prez
Articles have to be introduced into The House. The National Lawyers Guild was exploring the idea for "the felonious five" of Bush v. Gore infamy - they were going to vote on it at their convention in Oct, 2001 - but then Sept 11, 2001 happened and the notion disappeared down the memory hole.

90. It's an idea - but I don't know that it will get anywhere
Even with the NLG. Two of the Justices will be gone and the NLG has scrubbed their website of the info on their initial initiative.

But, here's some background on their thinking, if you're interested:

http://www.nathannewman.org/other/ImpeachSC.html

The Case for Impeaching the Rehnquist Five
By Nathan Newman, NLG National Vice President

Should the National Lawyers Guild work with political allies to seek the impeachment of the five rightwing members of the Supreme Court?

It is probably fair to say that with Bush v. Gore<1> last fall, combined with the Court majority's savage assault on civil rights, gender equality, labor unions and economic regulations, most progressives feel that those Justices are justly condemned for rightwing judicial activism that is more about politics than disinterested judicial judgement.

But impeachment? Many progressives, including some in the NLG, see such a campaign as an assault on the status of an independent judiciary, a campaign that would undermine the Court's role in protecting individual rights, and as a misuse of the impeachment power for mere political differences. Further, they argue such a campaign would marginalize the National Lawyers Guild and accomplish little.

I think such views show a misguided respect for the role of courts in the US political system. They also miss the strategic benefits such a campaign would have for progressive work across the country. An impeachment campaign is eminently practical, not in the sense that the Supreme Court members will be impeached next year or the year after, but such a campaign's educational value will be used to make the illegitimacy of the Court relevant to Congressional, Senate and Presidential elections in a way it has failed to be in most election years.

More broadly, such a campaign of impeachment needs to be mounted to contest the legal terrain that is settling across the land, where affirmative action, federal protection of civil rights, and a host of other property regulations are not only declared to be "unconstitutional" but are therefore seen as illegitimate. If we do not mount a campaign to declare the Supreme Court itself illegitimate, they will win the ideological fight to declare our social and political goals to be illicit.

But, then again, I'm in a low mood right now - perhaps I'll share your passion next week.

48. College Prez excuse is she's a conservative Lil' Kim
<snip>

Blacks "are the most loyal group for Democrats and you ought to be getting a little more out of them by giving them competition through the Republicans," Coulter said.

She hailed the nomination of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, suggesting that now there might be a fair vote on abortion.

Afterward, black students stood around "lashing" back at Coulter's "rhetoric," the newspaper said. One sophomore girl said: "We need someone on the Democratic side who just as outspoken as she is."

The college president, Walter Kimbrough, had told the audience that inviting Coulter to speak at the black school made sense because like hip hoppers she is "raw, outspoken, uncensored." He also called her the "conservative answer to rapper Lil' Kim -- attractive and sexy, long-haired blondes. ..."

Coulter said it was "the best introduction" she'd ever had.

68. CNN: "Justice Souter assaulted during jog"
May 2004

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter was assaulted by two men Friday night and taken to a hospital with minor injuries, a court spokeswoman said.

The incident occurred while he was jogging about 9 p.m. Friday, said Kathy Arberg, a court spokeswoman.

Law enforcement sources told CNN the incident occurred near the Potomac River waterfront in southwest Washington, not far from Souter's home.

Arberg said that the motive was not robbery, but law enforcement sources said it appeared to be a random attack.

This should be prosecuted in whatever way it can be done. She called for assassination of a Supreme Court judge because of his opposition views, and this should not be allowed. She may have said "rat poison" but her meaning and intent are all too clear. She was playing coy - harder to do if she were to say "stalk him and shoot him with an assalt weapon or bash him with a baseball bat when you find him alone." There are no lack of RW crypto-religious crazies out there who heard her message all too clearly.

You know any time any liberal says something critical(non-vile) statement about some right-wing justice like Scalia, Thomas, or Roberts, the Republicans heads explode and they start whining like a bunch of babies calling liberals racists/bullies/etc., we have all seen it many times before, most recently with the Alito hearings. Yet you don't see any one these conservatives complaining about this. Now this is a vile statement, but nothing will probably happen to Coulter because of it, because in *'s America, Conservatives can say vile things like this and basically get away with it, and if they are caught saying something like this, they don't get the punishment they deserve, and the liberals are blamed for smearing them instead.

since it is increasingly obvious that the hate-filled, venomous Ms. Coulter is still apparently flaming the rest of the human race and some universities are actually stupid enough to spend money on this non-speaker. I would like someone to explain just exactly what Ms. Coulter's rants add to the political discourse, especially the intellectual enlightenment of today's college students?

Several judges in the past few years have been killed, there's nothing funny here.

Such a statement is not repealed by appending the word "joke"...no more that saying you are joking about hijacking a plane or doing harm to the President gets you a free pass.

One can say that Coulter should be poisoned, but can not say this about a Federal Supreme Court judge. That is a threat against the government. The former is a joke about a joke.

141. Yes, Ann Coulter is repugnant - but she is entitled to the same
protection under the constitution as you or I or anyone else. It's sad that it is precisely this sort of freedom of speech that she and anti-American, constitution - hating venomous ignoramuses like her are doing their best to eliminate. It would be wrong and hypocritical for ANY patriotic, Constitution-loving American to even suggest that she should in some way be legally punished for exercising that freedom of speech.

We defeated Nazis and Commies and the British to protect that freedom. Surely, we can handle whatever it is that has taken over the Republican party.

Now, I do think that it's just fine for us to make fun of her and her fans. Should any of us ever encounter someone who admits to being a fan of that shrieking imbecile, perhaps we should try not to laugh at the poor moron too much, and point out that not only is she an idiot who changes her journalistic position, routinely contradicts herself, and either has lost contact with reality, or has no use for facts or truth, but she clearly hates America and our precious Constitution. Further, she's obviously pandering to the rejects from the angry lazy inbred retard contingent, that is her fan base, purely because she can take their money, and she holds them in contempt while she rips them off. She doesn't have the talent necessary to steal hubcaps or high enough ethical standards to be a politician or televangelist, so what are her alternatives?

It's her right to disregard any vestige of integrity or journalistic standards in her drive to be completely mercenary.

However, there is no excuse for that level of fugly, even for a drag queen. And add to fugly that double extra-special irritating level of annoying - no thank you puhleez.

For some reason, many women seem to think that straight guys think Ann is HOTT. Um, no. Women of Earth, let me disabuse you of that idea once and for all. She tries to portray herself as being desirable, maybe, but certainly not too loudly because she knows she'd be laughed off the stage. Not to be confused with how she's been booed off the stage at least once or twice. That had nothing to do with her appearance, but rather what she said.

I'm going to take the liberty of pointing out that as a straight guy, even if Ann "someone missed her rabies inoculation" Coulter was actually female, and actually asked me to be her, uh, paramour or whatever that would be, I wouldn't do her with George Bush's itty bitty limp organ and Dick Cheney pushing, as much as I respect the office of the President and Vice President. My friends of the straight male persuasion think my standards are dangerously low because I had to think about it for a second before just saying no to that option. For reference, their standards aren't all that high to begin with, as per "guys are dogs" stereotype.

Fellow DU readers - be glad you're not her. It must be awful having whatever it is that's wrong with her. However, for the most part, she brought it on herself - others have risen above similar physical and mental handicaps, so that's no excuse. Therefore, making fun of her is easy, fun, and fair game. See - she has a purpose, other than to divert attention from Rush Limbaugh's inability to handle his drugs with some level of dignity. Note to Rush: nobody likes a sloppy whining weak little bloated opiate addict, Rush. Most opiate addicts have more dignity than that. If you can't handle narcotics, DON'T DO THEM. (I think his inability to handle his happy pills explains a lot of what comes out of his mouth - you know, hallucinations and delusions and stuff. What a wuss.)

But getting back to the point - the right to freedom of speech even applies to evil mutant inbred brain damaged white trash (or non-white trash) bigoted un-american terrorist-lovers who would repeal the Constitution if they could, such as Ann Coulter, in spite of her and her kind doing all they can to limit it. Yes, I saw the link to the story of the guy who made the "Burning Bush" joke in a private conversation and is doing time for it - that was wrong and unconstitutional, even though it does happen, and such instances as that are NOT justifications for depriving others of their civil rights, no matter how richly deserved.

Our country needs us to be better than they are, and that includes being absolutely unflinching in our respect for and protection of our Constitution.

or advocating the murder of public officials. If I were to make such a statement on this board, it would be deleted, and rightly so. If I were to make such a remark in public, I would likely be arrested, and rightly so.

I'm as big on freedom of speech as anybody, but advocating the murder of public officials is something that goes way beyond the boundaries of constitutionally protected free speech. I will defend to the death, people's right to say things, even that I disagree with violently. People who issue death threats, or advocate the murder of, government officials whose politics they disagree with, can rot away in prison and get no sympathy from me.

145. I'm Writing An LTTE Demanding The Prosecution Of Ann Coulter
here it is...

I am shocked and appalled at the comments of Ann Coulter, speaking at Philander Smith College last Thursday. She said, quote, "We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Steven's creme brulee," unquote.

This sort of speech is in violation of the law, It violates a Federal criminal statute,
18 U.S.C. 115 (a)(1)(B): “Whoever threatens to assault…. or murder, a United States judge… with intent to retaliate against such… judge…. on account of the performance of official duties, shall be punished...”

So why isn't Ann being prosecuted? Probably because she is a conservative, and said it about a liberal. If it were the other way around, she'd probably be in jail already.

I guess it's okay for Republicans to advocate the murder of liberals. I call for the immediate prosecution of Ann Coulter, under existing Federal criminal statutes!

Ann is desperate for attention and some form of relevance, both of which elude her.
Even Fox, Rush and Dild'Oreilly wont return her calls.
Of course I hate everything she has to say, but part of me almost feels sorry for her.
Still, I am filing a complaint with the FBI. Some jail time will allow her to share her views with incarcerated Americans, which views I am sure will be warmly received.

162. Not Coulter's fault...
Every time I see one of these threads..sheesh!

The outrage, here, should not be about what she said (which is sick and stupid, I agree) but about the fact that any individual or group in this country would give her a venue to say anything. Never mind that they would PAY her to spout this trash. I don't know anything about Philander Smith College, but I assume they were not blessed with her presence for free.

And don't say "free speech". Of course she has the right to speak. But people don't have to listen. If an individual decided to make his/her living going around the country saying that all Jews in America should be rounded up and put back in concentration camps, how many universities or TV shows would give them a venue. IMO, they'd have to take a part-time job at McDonalds in order to pay their utilities.

What's wrong with the American people that they listen to this shit?

And what about this? " Coulter has made a career of writing and lecturing on her strongly conservative views." Conservative?? Please! William Buckley is conservative. But you can carry on a conversation with him, and dispute as you see fit.

Coulter is like the "dog-faced boy" that used to be exhibited at carnivals before we, as a society, learned not to ridicule the disabled. It's a freak show. :eyes:

182. I think he was right when he said this:
"We're now at the point that it's beyond whether or not this guy is a horny hick. I really think it's a question of his mental stability. He really could be a lunatic. I think it is a rational question for Americans to ask whether their president is insane."---Equal Time
He was talking about Bush wasn't he?

And I agree with him on this:
"I have to say I'm all for public flogging. One type of criminal that a public humiliation might work particularly well with are the juvenile delinquents, a lot of whom consider it a badge of honor to be sent to juvenile detention. And it might not be such a cool thing in the 'hood to be flogged publicly."---MSNBC 3/22/97
Especially for people who make death threats at government officials.

And this statement is pretty much admitting everything isn't it?
"My libertarian friends are probably getting a little upset now but I think that's because they never appreciate the benefits of local fascism."---MSNBC 2/8/97

Perhaps Ann Coulter would like to taste the creme brulee first to ensure that it works.

179. How would she like it?
Coulter has made a frequent "hobby" of joking about inflicting violence on various people, from The New York Times to Bill Clinton to every citizen of the Middle East. Would she enjoy it if she had her food poisoned? I'd like to see that happen; true poetic justice.

183. Who was that judge whose family was slaughtered?
A female judge, she's still (any prolly always will be) under constant police protection... from what I remember at least one of her parents and somebody else (her husband??) was killed by a Reich-winger because of some pundit/spindit going off about judges.

And why wasn't this prosecuted as a hate crime AND why wasn't the pundit himself arrested for fomenting murder???

Wow, finally made it -- this is post number 1K! :D

191. This is what happens...
...when you teach rednecks how to read and write.

Ann Coulter should be grated with a cheese grater until she is basically one giant walking wound. Then she should be covered in rubbing alcohol. After that, she should be boiled in oil, and just before she is able to die, she should be pulled from the oil, thrown in a burlap sack, and drowned. Her body should be recovered, her head cut off, put on a spike, and displayed prominently in front of DNC headquarters, and be facefucked by Howard Dean when he arrives at work every morning.

haha, just kidding
