Target...fires pharmacist for not dispensing birth control...
I hope this means Target has reversed its earlier policy of allowing their pharmacists to refuse to provide women with their prescriptions...

2. Pharmacist is suing
so this will go to the courts. Wonder if it will make it up to the SCOTUS?

3. Good!

Their job is to give the medicine and not to fuck around. If they didn't want to do the job than why have it in the first place? :eyes: So stupid. If I work at a fast food place can I not serve a customer if I don't believe in eating meat? I'm glad to hear this since I love "Target."

4. We can hope so
If these people aren't willing to treat ALL their patients, they don't deserve to have their jobs.

5. I really feel for her...

Can't do the job for moral/ethical reasons? Don't take the job!

But would she have some footing in the court?

Is the comparison of an Orthodox Jewish person who takes on a butcher's job at a non-kosher deli and gets miffed when they fire him for not selling (aka touching) pork a close one?

Would such a case stand up in court?

9. Not if the job requirements clearly state he has to touch pork
Likewise, a pharmacist clearly must fill prescriptions for birth control.

She has no case.

In fact, the lady who was refused pills has a case of discrimination against the pharmacist....
:D

19. And the Vegan/Orthadox Jew doesn't have to eat the meat
They just have to handle it and sell it despite the fact that it is against their beleifs (but in the job description.)

6. and of course the little dumb@$$ pharmacist is suing
I am going to sue for discrimination against lazy people. I object to the fact that I am required to actually do any work at all at my job.

13. Me, too. I canceled my Target credit card,
wrote a letter to their headquarters, and haven't been back since.

I miss that store . . .

15. I've avoided them, too...
for months, since hearing about their pharmacy policy. Spent all my Christmas gift money elsewhere this year, and will continue to shop elsewhere until they publicly announce a change in the policy.

Want to be a pharmacist? Fill prescriptions.

Want to place moralistic judgements on absolute strangers? Become a republican.

Good for Target.

(still won't shop there though....)

14. It's about damn time someone is doing something about this!
The thing is, pharmacists should have to do something they dont agree with like the rest of us.

16. This is good to hear.
Since we don't have a CostCo., Target is the least Republican store I can shop at.

I refuse to do Wally World.

20. I have no problem with a pharmacist refusing to fill a prescription.
So long as there is, at all times, a back-up pharmacist on-site who WILL fill the prescription. If a business wants to increase payroll in order to guard the moral beliefs of their employees, while still being able to serve their customers, that's fine by me.

Either that, or a pharmacist must be able to refuse to fulfill any prescription for any drug for any reason. "Sorry sir, but I refuse to fill your prescription for Viagra, because the mental picture of you having sex would cause me irreperable mental harm. Good day!".

Mostly

You don't pony up the fucking balls to be a grown-up and dispense medication, your ass is on the street. Sorry, Christo-wacko.

22. I'm curious to know the details of this particular case
since it looks like up to now that pharmacist was not required to fill those prescriptions.
