Why are RWers allowed to broadcast hate speech and death threats?
You hear Limbaugh, Hannity, and especially Coulter and Savage saying all the time that liberals are filthy traitors and should be exterminated, or at least don't deserve to live in America because they don't worship at the Altar of Shrub. Hell, we even allow the KKK and American Nazi Party to stage rallies in black and Jewish neighborhoods. Yet when a liberal says something even close to what these monsters spew, there are black helicopters circling their homes in a second. What gives? Does the 1st Amendment only apply to conservatives now? Even more disturbing, is hate speech and threats against liberals now acceptable? Maybe liberals really are the new Jews.

1. I work where this hate speech radio is piped into the office hallways.

I've always wondered why it's okay for me to have to listen to how I'm a traitor and a terrorist, unpatriotic, not a Christian, etc. I find it very offensive. What if you changed the word "Democrat or Liberal" to "Woman" or "Black" or "Jew"? Would they be allowed to say the things they do?

20. Better question.

What if they changed "Liberal or Democrat" to "White", "Republican", "Conservative", or "Christian"?

2. The 'conservative' media.

They decide what angle to pursue on every story. They are right wing hacks who are paid to have a right-wing slant.

For example:

For some unknown reason I had fox news Sunday on last week to get a glimpse at Mcains views. It was all smiles and "What do you think about ____?" smile smile smile.

A Democratic Senator was up next and it was "Why did Democrats take money from Abramoff?" Senator replies " No Democrat has taken----" (News anchor interupts) "Yes they have!! blah blah blah"

No smiles, attack attack attack.

It should have been neutral, but it wasn't. It was FAUX.

3. To be fair
There are people at this very board who continually berate prominent Republicans/conservatives and call for them to be tried, condemned, etc. Liberals can say whatever they like here and at similar boards (within the rules of the Administrators), just like the talk radio crowd can on their venue.

I don't like talk radio and info-tainment and what they represent, but that same freedom allows us to congregate and exchange ideas on the web.

13. Charlie is right.
It's OK to disagree with folks, but all of us ought to find ways to do it civilly. I'm guilty of excess in this myself. I find myself overstating my contempt for conservatives sometimes too. But it's definitely wrong to call for "extermination" of people just because you disagree with their point of view.

15. Yeah, but how come their "venue" is all TV, talk radio (except for a few)
and freerepublic when we just have places like DU? It does NOT reflect market demand. If you have Gore/Kerry taking around half the vote, then around half the talk shows, cable pundits, etc should be liberals screaming about them. But this is not the case, and the reason for this is that our opinions are suppressed and theirs are tolerated, no matter how hateful

17. There is a big difference...
between posting here and being held captive at work, force-fed insults and having to indure slurs that have become very personal and discriminatory.

Coming here allows one to find another site to read if what is said is offensive, but one cannot just walk out of work to get away from it.

4. Because no one in the media calls them on it.........
like you say, if it were a Democrat saying something like Annthrax said today there would be wall to wall coverage and a major issue would ensue. Since a Republican said it though, well........"it was just a joke".
There is a double standard in the media, you know, the "liberal media". :eyes:

9. Just the phraise "liberal media" is so absurd and opposite the truth
it's like saying Hitler was a champion of human rights or that John Ashcroft is a great defender of the US Constitution.

6. Maybe it's time for their targets to start complaining to the FCC
and threatening the licenses of any station that broadcasts this swill. Starions are renting our airwaves, and they are under contract to broadcast in our interest, ALL OF US.

It's high time the FCC got reminded that we live here, too, and we're sick to death of right wing gas bags calling for over half the country to be put to death.

Enough. Start writing. Use a stamp. Make your voice heard. I am not joking about this, it's the only way to do it.

7. Because that is the Party Line...
"Death to Liberals" - and everyone else we don't happen to like or need. They would like to start with perceived liberals on the Supreme Court and work their way down. To them, their death threats are either "jokes" or "protected free speech." Everybody else's speech is not protected, of course.

Poor (economically disadvantaged) Republicans, of course, do not see themselves in the mix - but they are there. Until the stolen election scheme is perfected, they're a necessary evil.

10. The GOP - stupidity and hypocrisy at its finest.
On one hand, we have assholes like Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, and Glenn Beck making death threats all the time, but one slip of a nipple during the most watched sporting event of the year makes people pissed off.

To use a classic quote from George Carlin - "Personally, I'd rather see people use the word fuck than to use the word kill."

11. Liberals are the new 50's communists...
Coulter wrote a whole book on it, you know, how Joe McArthy was right and how liberals should be rounded up and "investigated".

Just a bunch of rhetoric by a small group of neo-con attention whores.

people don't apply to them.

or maybe it's just because god is on their side and loves it so much when they say how much they hate someone.

19. Their 10 commandments:
Thou shalt hate gays
Thou shalt not criticize a Republican President
Thou shalt blow liberals' heads off with a shotgun
Thou art above the law only if thou art Republican
Thou shat hate gays (again)
Thou shalt kill anyone of a different skin color or religion
Thou shalt win by any means necessary
Thou shalt masturbate to Saving Private Ryan
Thou shalt covet the entire world, as it belongs to the GOP
Thou shalt not get a blowjob in the Oval Office

I know RWers think it's HILARIOUS to contemplate the horrible deaths of liberals.

But gee, didn't that guy in MN go to jail for making some joke about a burning Bush?

see, it's a fine joke if they do it to us, capital crime if we do it to them.

27. Nowadays, liberals are 3rd class citizens
who are only allowed to live here by the grace of Jesus W. Bush, and conservatives are the "chosen people" who get special rights for having the "right" political beliefs, such as the right to talk about killing political opponents and get away with it.
