I predict the following at the State of The Union Address, 2006:
ISSUES TO BE MENTIONED:
God. He is Bush and the nation's Big Pal In The Sky who wants to use us to spread His freedoms. He will be used, indirectly, to justify an immoral war. (Bush is actually referring to Mars, not the God of the Bible.) Spying on Americans. We just spy on terrorists while protecting the privacy of American citizens. There may have been some problems but they are being fixed. Expect a strong defense of domestic spying linked to 9-11 and Osama Bin Laden.
Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit Plan. It is real good. There are a few problems that we are fixing. Maybe a picture of some old folks in the audience, used as props, smiling.
Alito. He has a great legal mind and must be confirmed. Maybe Junior will say, "He likes baseball and eats apple pie." He will praise bipartisanship.
Bipartisanship. It's real good and we need it.
Iraq and Terrorism. They will be equated. He will state that the Iraq was has no effect in radicalizing and creating terrorists because American was attacked before we ever set foot in Iraq. (Huh? You can't create new terrorists 'cause some existed before 9-11? You can't create new nuclear weapons 'cause you already have some and have used a couple? Huh?) The democrats can't criticize our Iraq policy 'case they voted for it. ( 23 senators refused to authorize President Bush to attack Iraq if Saddam Hussein refusd to give up weapons of mass destruction as required by U.N. resolutions. 133 House members also voted against the authorization. Do they have to shut up to?) He will oppose a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq. There will be a trooper or 2 in the audience that he will use as props. (Guaranteed, no soldier with visible wounds will be a prop.)
The homeland. "We are safe and secure do to the wonderful leadership myself, the Dear Leader." . The economy. We're doing real good.
Other Domestic Issues. Health care savings accounts, guest-worker programs, the unqualified success of No Child Left Behind, the rebuilding of New Orleans, spending cuts for non war needs and making tax breaks permanent (for the rich but that won't be mentioned).
Buzz words and phrases: Tax relief, healthy, clean and safe, Hard work, God, sucurity and protection, freedom, democracy, hard work, freedom of the Iraqi people, growing our economy, build a better world, hard work, taxpayer relief, spending restraint, tax relief, reforming immigration, reforming education, reforming anything that moves, hard work, Laura, Laura, Laura, Laura, 9-11,9-11,9-11, environmental responsibility, work, protecting America's families, winning the war on terror, spread of democracy, growing Iraqi security forces, confident and strong, hard work, hard work, hard work, we will move forward with confidence and faith.
BUSH WILL TALK LITTLE OR NOTHING ABOUT THE FOLLOWING: Veterans. Inadequate benefits, inadequate care for wounded and those suffering from PTSD. No talk of a new GI Bill of Rights. He will refer them, however, as "brave" and "heroic," some of whom have made the "ultimate sacrifice" for our freedom and to make us safe and secure. He will say"support our troops." Axis of evil. In particular, nothing about the number of nukes North Korea has built on his watch. But, "today, Iran is a threat." He will not mention military funerals he does not attend or the numerous visits to see the wounded never on his agenda.
Federal budget deficit. The gap between federal spending and revenue is growing, but it's a sore subject for a president from a party that has prided itself on fiscal responsibility. ( In 2001, In his State of the Union speech, Bush said. "Our budget will run a deficit that will be small and short term." He also told Pat Robertson that there would be no deaths of American troops in Iraq before the invasion.)
Corruption. Abramoff scandal and GOP culture of corruption. Scooter Libby and Valarie Plame probably won't be mentioned. Nither will Jeff Gannon Guckert. Neither will WMD's.
Foreign Affairs. No mention of Israeli occupation of Palestine. Little on Africa and Latin America. Nothing on creating covert prisons for secret prisoners, authorizing the torture of prisoners to extract information from them, authorizing running black-hole secret prisons in foreign countries to get around US law. Global Warming. Maybe something about "clean coal."
