We live in interesting times, we do. We can read in our daily newspapers that our government is about to launch a three-day propaganda blitz to convince us all that its secret program to spy on us is something we really want and need.

1. "And part of that
calls on American journalism to get over reporting the Bush administration as though it were a credible source. We need to face facts."

Hilarious.

And true... which makes it even more hilarious.

A very good piece.

2. These last two paragraphs sum it all up for me:
"Because we are stuck with this administration for another three years, I think it important to begin to get past the defensiveness and drawing attention away and blame games that big messes provoke.

And part of that calls on American journalism to get over reporting the Bush administration as though it were a credible source. We need to face facts."

Wonderful sentiment from Molly, but I really do think the corporate media is way past facing facts.

I was absolutely stunned at what Snotty Scotty got away with today at his press briefing. Sen. Kerry wasn't in Davos skiing he was doing the government's business at the World Economic Forum and not one of those assclowns in the Press Room called Snotty Scotty on it. They all just laughed at Kerry's expense.

Even tonight on the Lehrer Newshour, Mark Shields didn't point this very relevant fact out.

Don't get me wrong, Molly Ivins :yourock:, but I honestly do believe that there is nothing that will stop slurs like this about every Democratic politician from happening over and over again.

6. These so-called pundits, including supposedly
progressive ones, haven't a clue. Listening to Shields and the shouters on mcG. Group holding forth on their conceited, totally baseless claims that Sen. Reid is executing some sort of deep "libr'l" scheme to execute a military toy soldier battle master plan aimed at positioning for the next fake elections was almost hilarious (if it weren't so painful.)

Idiots (esp. Buchannon) have no notion whatsoever that the pirouette on resisting and filibustering Alito was a simple, direct result of a million phone calls, e-mails and faxes, expressing our demands that they rear up to their full height of four foot six, hiss and FIGHT! You're going down, anyway, so go down fighting and bitching. Whyinhell these rascals actually get paid to put out such malarkey is beyond me. Well, on second thought, not really. If cnn can stay in business while producing literally nothing of real value, it should be no surprise to me that a few thousand other worthless opinion barfers have caught on to it as well.

3. Damn. I love that woman. Molly Ivins.
.

The bloated gloat of Karl Rove

"(T)he Rove offensive is not to admit that we are indeed running a gulag of secret detention camps, but to attack those who point it out and put them under investigation for revealing government secrets and helping the enemy. Even without the intimidation, how do you report something claimed by Bush as though you hadn't recently heard him say he would support John McCain's amendment barring torture — and then turn around and claim that he has the right to violate that law?" "My opinion Molly Ivins : Let's be honest, starting with the press," by Molly Ivins, The Arizona Daily Sun (online), Tucson, Arizona, January 28, 2006 http://www.azstarnet.com/allheadlines/113340

Indeed. Molly says it like it is, and with a glimmer of sarcastic tongue-in-cheek humor.

4. there is one point in her piece
" But I am confounded by the authoritarian streak in the Republican Party backing Bush on this. To me, it seems so simple: Would you think this was a good idea if Hillary Clinton were president? Do you have complete confidence that she would never misuse this "inherent power" for any partisan reason?"

Really, the only thing that makes sense in all of this "unitarian government" idea is that the 'pukes expect to NEVER lose power. They have to absolutely depend on this happening. There is no way they could change all of the rulings/laws fast enough to take power away from a dem. president. And that really scares the s**t out of me, 'cause we have enough evidence about electron fraud, media control, etc., etc., to make this a very real possibility.

7. Yer right; some days I feel so mean about all the denigrating stuff I'd
actually like to meet someone who'd dare to piss in my boot and let the brawl begin.

8. Thanks Molly
Yet again you expose the whores in the media and the liars in the government. Both must be confronted with facts.
