Response from my Rep Ron Paul on Iraq War, oversight, etc |
|
He's a Libertarian turned Republican. I wish he could see the error of his ways. At least he doesn't fall into lockstep with the other GOPers.
Dear Ms. ILSA:
Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns about the aftermath of the war in Iraq. As one who has been consistently and vocally opposed to an invasion of Iraq, I can assure you that I share these concerns.
I do agree with you that this is a matter for congressional oversight. Congress has unfortunately already ignored its constitutional obligation in refusing to vote for or against a declaration of war against Iraq. Congress must not again ignore its obligations on this matter of oversight of the Executive Branch. Fortunately, we are seeing the beginnings of such oversight in the form of hearings in the Senate and House of Representatives on the matter. I fully support these hearings and every effort to discover more about the administration's decision to wage war against Iraq.
Please see below my speech on the House Floor on this very topic.
If you have any other questions, concerns, or comments that you would like me to address, please do not hesitate to contact my office directly.
Again, thank you for keeping me apprised of your concerns.

1. Hi, Ilsa, you must be in Central TX! |
|
I grew up in Giddings and still subscribe to their little newspaper which reprints a lot of Rep. Paul's speeches. He's a character, all right, but yeah, I do have to commend him for calling out members of his own party on lots of issues.

2. Contact him about Alito |
|
If he has concerns about Congress's "obligations on the matter of oversight".. He should be LIVID about "signing statements" that indicate that the President will sign the bill and then put a little p.s. at the end that says... "this is Law, but not for me."
Alito INVENTED the signing statement and will surely give those little dropping the Force of Law.
The most glaring example is his little "I reserve the right to do whatever I want" on the bill outlawing torture that got overwhelming support and so much press a few weeks ago.

I get the impression, but I don't have any specific information, that Dr. Paul doesn't care much for W. at all, for a variety of reasons.

5. IMO Ron Paul calls himself a Republican to get elected. |
|
He's one of the better ones in that party, though.
