I pulled my bumper sticker off my car.
I have drove around with a bumper sticker that read Support our Troops bring them home. The sticker came off because I heard in my state recruitment was high. I know that my state of Michigan is being hit hard with unemployment that people are having a hard time finding jobs but to sign up for money just disgusts me. What is happen to our county you now go to war for money? I really do what our men and women to come home from Iraq I don't support this war. How can I keep writing and calling my Representatives to bring our troops home when they keep signing up for tours of duty? Is this wrong to feel this way?

2. I have the same bumper sticker and
it is only half true. When I read of troops stealing the wifes of Iraqis or torturing them, I have problems supporting that type of conduct.

13. What nationality are the wives being stolen?
Edited on Sat Jan-28-06 12:03 PM by Nobody
Are the women Syrian? Lebanese? French? Something else? Inquiring minds want to know. If they're married to Iraqis without being themselves Iraqi, this might be important to know.

(On edit: oops, a dangling modifier)

3. Maybe you can put up one with "Bring the troops home" or one of
them supporting the troops but not supporting the war.

I have a friend in the army who says that when a person is on active duty they had better not saying saying bad about the army or they will suffer for it. In private all the ones she knows hate it because of the war.

4. This hits home for me...
One of my really good friends lives in Detroit and has been struggling for years. He's actually going through the process of re-enlisting in the Army right now because it's either that or possibly homeless.

5. So its come down to picking up a gun or starving
Its come down to fighting a illegal war or starving to death. These are the stories that need to come out. Its just like our family can't afford to send my kids through college so I just put them in the army so they get a education. All I say to that one is FU Bush you are not getting my kids.

7. Interesting you did so...as I've noticed lately a real decline in "Support
our Troops" magnet/ribbons on cars.

I tried thinking back to when they started disappearing...and think it was somewhere between the Sheehan vigil in TX, and Katrina. But they are almost an endangered "species" now.

You can still LOVE the people you know who serve there, and write them and send them gifts...and await their return...BUT "supporting" their actions (which often involve killing and torturing innocents and women and children)...if only out of the shell-shock of War...is not only indefensible, but morally wrong. And like "shaping" a child's behavior by rewarding or "supporting" ONLY those behaviors which are morally right or good...we need...as a Nation and World...to "support" or "reward" ONLY those actions which "support" GLOBAL humanity.

And remember, when you "support" them, it is NOT necessarily "we-the-people" our troops are now serving...BUT the interests of this Admin and Hell-iburton, etc.

14. It's sad.
They have raised the age limit to 40 (which means I can reenlist :-) if I wanted) and raised the signing bonuses to I believe $20,000 (although that number may be more).

16. i think people always went to war for money
i don't know the answers to your other questons, would that i did

i won't do a support the troops ribbon around here it would be interpreted as pro-* and i am just not willing to lend that twerp any support even by mistake

my thought is you best support by troops by quietly getting involved in actions that actually do help their situation, be it as small as donating reading materials or handy-wipes or as large as getting involved in a drive to pay for proper body armor

but i v. hesitant to be seen openly in public as the bumper sticker type, you get pigeon holed

guess i'm saying you did the right thing to remove the bumper sticker
