Sounds like that is where we are headed, doesn't it. This is so shades of the 50's when I was growing up. We spent our whole childhood scared to death of a nuclear attack.
Iran, India, Israel, Pakistan, North Korea.
Next thing will be the bomb shelters. But instead of calling everyone "commies" they will be calling them "terrorists." Or maybe, "militant Islamists."
We never learn!

1. There's something that appears to be ingrained into |
|
our psyches, and that is the idea of seperation, of opposites. Our societies tend to reinforce this concept. It's like we "have" to have a "bad guy" to hate and be afraid of. Throughout history it has been different peoples and groups. A few people in history have tried to break down this construct and show how we are more alike than different. If their message is heard by a few, the majority either don't hear the message or twist it around to suit their own purposes.

and into the First Congrgational Church, down into the basement classroom, and made to hide under the desks. This was in NY. The Power of Nightmares I was speaking about is here... if you haven't seen it... http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/video1037.htm

3. There's always plenty of bogeymen for the politicos to erect. |
|
"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." H.L. Mencken

8. It would be nice to live in a country that doesn't aspire to #1. |
|
Andorra? Lichtenstein?
Last I heard, neither of them were living in terror of a multitude of enemies.
Not unless BushCo decides to place them in the "Axis of Evil".
