1. I stopped supporting the Government of Israel long ago.
I do, however, support the right of Israel to exist as a state, just like I support the right of Palestine to exist as a state.

2. Well now that Hamas has won the election
Edited on Sat Jan-28-06 02:44 PM by malaise
I expect them to let Sharon die in peace so that he can come to power.
I support none of them. I see no difference between Sharon and Hamas.

Edit - add.

3. I support the Constitution of the US

which is my country. I don't support other countries if by that you mean sending them money, lobbying for them, etc. However, I have my opinions about other nations and their relationship to the world. I am distressed over the beligerant attitude of the President of Iran, and fear that if Mr. Netanyahu becomes PM of Isreal, his remarks and attitudes will only continue to escalate the bad feelings in the region.

Having read the other posts on this thread, the fact that Hamas is now in power for the Palestinians, I fear that it will take cool heads and not hotheads at the helm of the various countries in the region to keep things from getting much worse. It would be wise to see what happens when Hamas really tries to rule, which is a far cry from being the outsider party only interested in fighting. Palestinians want more than that, from what I have read. They want an end to political corruption, and an improved economy and way of life. Perhaps if a cool head is in charge in Israel, they will find Hamas muddled and perhaps ineffective.

4. This belongs in the Israel vs Hamas forum
And for the record, I won't support the genocide of the Jewish people no matter who is running their government.

I'm disapointed to see that this is apparently okay by you.

Don't bother to reply.

You're on my ignore list.

13. There are critics of policy and those that call for her destruction
Big difference.

I want a two-state sollution that recognizes the right of both Israel and Palestine to exist peacefully side-by-side.

The alternative is genocide.

And yes, I'll add you too.

5. A qualified yes
Netanyahu is a real asshole, far worse than Sharon (who is sometimes a reasonable guy). He's arrogant, bigoted and deceitful.

But that does not mean that I will make excuses for kids who strap explosives to themselves and blow up buses. That's terrorism no matter who is in power.

7. That man is no partner for peace. He is an ultra-rightwing extremist
Edited on Sat Jan-28-06 02:50 PM by Selatius
I fear if he had his way, Palestinians will never find a true chance for peace and independence. They will, instead, be given a crippled version of an "independent state" bisected and disected with Israeli checkpoints and Israeli-only roads linking various colonies the government has built over the decades. It will be no different than the bantustans of Apartheid-era South Africa, and it will only encourage more violence, not lessen it.

It is extremists on both sides of "the wall" that have brought misery to all in Israel and the West Bank/Gaza.

11. If Netanyahu had his druthers
he'd do to the Palestinians what Hitler did to the Jews. Netanyahu is an irredeemable fascist asshole and shrieking right wing ideologue.

8. Of course I'll still support Israel.
Edited on Sat Jan-28-06 02:55 PM by Neil Lisst
There are many Israelis who favor some peace plan, and they may or may not prevail in upcoming elections, but that does not change the US interests in maintaining a strong Israel.

However, I'm mindful of the rights of Palestinians, too, just as many Israelis are.

When leadership changes, you deal with it.

9. I don't support Israel to begin with ...
in fact since Rabin's assassination the whole country rapidly lost all credibility in my eyes, the peace movement has been marginalised and reoccupation of the Gaza strip is almost a certainty with that idiot monkey in the WH.

If countries with weapons believe your country and everyone in it should be murdered and are actively pursuing your destruction, my opinion is you have a right to protect yourself and I'm not going to tell you what you should do.

15. I don't support Netanyahu and I don't suppport Hamas. I support the
safety and welfare of the Israeli and Palestinian people even if they always only have buttholes for leaders. They have not had a good leader on either side in ages. I support the people, not the fuckers in power on either side.

17. Agreed. I think Barak was a good Israeli leader
but I think he was also an assassin. He was involved in the revenge killings of the Black September group that did the Olympic murders.

There are no pure good guys or bad guys in that fight. I am just as concerned about Hamas running the PA as I am over who will run Israel. Any truly objective and thinking person would be.

And the US should wash their hands of both if that happens

20. We can't
That's how we got here. When Bush came into office, he was going to do just that, stay out of it and let them fight it out. Well it didn't work then and it won't work now. We either stay involved and try to push both sides towards peace, or the place blows up completely.

While the discussion on the future of Israel/Palestine is a legitimate issue, posting inflammatory Opening Posts is not conducive to discussion.

Thank you for your understanding.
