What's with the sudden German BushCo lovefest?
Seems like everything I hear from Germany nowdays is an echo chamber of Bush and his goons. Saw this today:

"BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- It is probably only a matter of time before Europe falls victim to a terror attack with a "dirty bomb" combining conventional explosives and radioactive material, according to Germany's interior minister.

In an interview with a newspaper released ahead of time on Saturday, Wolfgang Schaeuble said the spread of "dirty" material and weapons of mass destruction rendered the threat of attacks by international terrorists "extremely serious."

"The question is probably no longer whether there'll be an attack with a dirty bomb, the question is when and where it's going to happen," he told Germany's Welt am Sonntag paper, citing reports from intelligence services.

In remarks due to be published on Sunday, Schaeuble said, however, that there had not yet been any concrete evidence of militants attempting to acquire the dirty material."

Not too long ago, Germany and Bush weren't even speaking to each other. Now they're in bed together? What gives?

7. A conservative interior minister
He's been saying that nonsense for a long time, but now that he has a federal office, the international media is reporting about it.

It actually has not much to do with Bush, it is rather part of a German debate.
The German constitution forbids the army from deploying inside the country, unless the state of war has been declared or help in dealing with a disaster has been sought by local authorities.

The conservatives want to change the constitution, in order to use soldiers as cheap policemen.
Now, the public would never allow it (and hence no other party would go along), as the argument: "We don't want to employ the number of policemen needed to get the job done, so we want to use unqualified armed Federal personnel for it instead. And the Federation has to foot the bill." does not endear the notion to normal people.
To get the needed support, they are constructing rather funny scenarios. A few were:
-We need AWACS to guard the world soccer championship
-If, during a world cup match, a tanker on the Rhine explodes and a terroristic attack takes place and a big protest escalates - all at the same time - we won't have enough assets to deal with it.
- Oldie but goldie: the dirty bomb. Never mind that in such a case the existing legislation would cover the deployment of ABC troops.
