Effect of Katrina/Brownie: One case report
I revisited a hobby board I used to post regularly on but stopped because I got tired of nastiness and insults from wingnuts there on political threads.

One of the big shrub apologists had the following to say:

...There are a lot of things that Bush has done, not done, or said that there really is no explination for other than the guy is just in way over his head.

He lost me after Mike Brown's qualifications were brought to light. Any President that could appoint that guy head of something as important as FEMA obviously does not understand or appreciate the responsibilities that go along with being President.

Problem is, a guy like this still has basically only insults for Dems etc. and I suspect would still vote for Repub idiocy, but it was interesting to see that even some of these supporters see the incompetency for what it is.

1. This doesn't show up on "my posts" so I'm gonna kick it just in case.

2. It's a shame that it took him THAT LONG to see Bush's ineptitude
I don't know too many Republicans, and the ones I do know have gotten less and less vocal about their support of Bush. I'm hoping they're embarrassed!

3. From the get-go when they took over the Exec functions, they treated
FEMA as if it was nothing more than a PR program for the president. They asked current FEMA employees, "How did you manage to manipulate the press into giving you all of those good reports during theClinton Admin? One said he thought the reporting was smoke and mirrors for the org. The long-time employee said they had gotten good reports because they planned for emergencies and responded to people in need -- they did the work! The man still couldn't believe it.

That's what it is with these Rethugs: they think everything is a matter of perception, therefore, they can fix it without spending anything mroe than ad money on it. They don't get it that death and pain and hunger and loss of home are not just perceived, but real.

4. Well it's not just FEMA it's the whole damn government, that's why
basically every key appointee is either a rep from the industry being regulated by that agency, or some shill like Brownie, presumably designed to steer any FEMA related contracts to their buddy contributors.

The FEMA example is only the more notable because it is such a glaring, disgraceful failure in an area that shrubco SPECIFICALLY trumpets as their, and the Repub, strong suit, security, and protecting the country!

Both the Brownie appointment, and the actual results from Katrina.

5. Yep, govt is nothing more than a power tool for these theives,
along with the ability to strip down protective regs, which again, allows the CEOs to enrich themselves with unfettered rape of the public resources.
