Hours of non-stop programming today about the Challenger
accident. Not one word about the true cause which was that the political pressure to make the launch overruled the recommendations by the Thiacall (sp) engineers that the launch be postponed due to the extreme cold weather. The accident was another example of bad politics killing people.

1. Political strategists will kill us all
x(

They shell out millions for these idiots for nothing more than impression management.

Why not just pay us for our votes?

2. I'd wanted to watch the launch before I left for work
But when it was announced that it was 23 degrees there, I left because I knew they'd NEVER do something as idiotic as try to send it up.

3. I also was concerned about the temp. On the night before the
launch I saw a piece on the news that the main hatch was jammed. After all attempts failed, they actually took a sledge hammer and crow bar and opened the door. That caused me some concerned. It just didn't seem to be up to space standards. But, most importantly, the Thiakol engineers flat out said that the launch shouldn't be made. That recommendation was overruled by bureaucrats who were pressured by the administration to go ahead with the launch.
