IMO Democrats should abandon Gulf Coast States
Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana even Florida and South Carolina. Hurricane's Katrina and Rita and Wilma are all just the very beginning of darker days. Republicans already control those states and I doubt seriously things will change in that dept so Democrats should just let the states become solid Republican and they can deal with their own mess when it inevitably will come. Global Climate change is not a myth and all predictions are for more and stronger hurricanes and tornado's and flooding. Why should Democrats pay the price when we have been yelling for years to address the situation. Let them have at it and God will do his bidding...It would be nice if a few more Democrats were to land in "the Heartland" and give Democrats more clout on the Senatorial side of things.

2. I would have disagreed about Florida until I got here
People here are still proudly displaying their Stupid/Evil2004 bumper stickers. The majority of folks here just don't want to think about politics. My mother was right about this state, she always said she liked to see all those high rise condos being built because they'd make Florida sink faster.

Yes, the Dems need to cut their losses and concentrate on the west and midwest, especially. That's where an economic populist campaign will take hold and flourish. This is where the populist revolution will start, and this is where a populist party should concentrate its resources.

Of course, that depends on the DLC being unable to thrust another Repug candidate down the party's throat or control the platform if a mild liberal actually wins the nomination.

South Carolina isn't a Gulf Coast State.

4. Yes I know but it is very susceptible to Hurricanes and tornadoes
And also very Republican. It is one of the very endangered states from Nature. Democrats should be smart enough to realize nothing is going to be done in those states to mitigate natural disaster. Republicans are far too greedy to act on Climate Change predictions and Democrats in these states are powerless.

5. Perhaps an opportunity?
The Republicans have done such a abysmal job with hurricanes and other disaster management that they may be vulnerable in this area. The contrast between Clinton's FEMA and the current one is striking, especially since they abandoned Project Impact when they took over.

7. Yes I am glad the 9th ward was destroyed too
I only wish we could control natural disasters. Maybe we should talk like Pat Robertson..

Funny thing, I went to a wedding a couple of summers ago in a blue state. Got to talking witha gal, she was in the DNR, surface water quality expert. I had been fishing and the guide had said cant eat the fish due to mercury and dioxin. He pointed out some old growth forests damaged from acid rain.

Sp I asked the gal, what gives? She pointed west-"we cant regulate what happens in Minn" Hmmm one blue state pissing on the other. A manmade disaster that could be controlled.

Fish is supposed to be good for you

8. Omega 3 is very good for you
and not just for the heart. Research has found that omega three which is mostly found in fish is very good for the brain. The brain is sixty percent fat and that omega 3 is showing the brain can actually rebuild synapses and shows great strides in preventing or even curing Depression, ADD, Alzheimer's, memory loss and many many other ailments of the brain. I believe the good that one gets from eating fish far out weighs the bad. You can buy supplemental tablets of omega 3 though if you are really worried about pollution. They say the body should have one gram a day of Omega 3 fatty oils.
