We Have A DLC To Divide The Party, But No RLC, Correct?
I don't know my politics like many of you, but I wonder if when the DLC came to be, if they thought this would make our party bigger, by appealing to moderates in the repug party? Does anyone have info on the beginnings of the DLC?

1. The Republicans have multiple orginizations that divide their party.
The Club for Growth - Has attacked Sen. Lindsey Graham in the past, and just recently endorsed Mayor Laffey over Sen. Chafee in RI.

They also have some centrist groups that believe Republicans must become more tolerant on cultural issues or risk fading into irrelevance. People like Chris Shays, Lincoln Chafee, and other NE Republicans.

By the way, you are seriously misinformed if you believe the DLC's sole purpose is to divide the democratic party.

...as they've done since 1948.

Your post indeed does show a lack of knowledge about the DLC.

DLC formed in response to three straight Democratic presidential losses (Carter/Mondale/Dukakis) and losses in four out of five presidential races (McGovern, Carter, Mondale, Dukakis) as well as the loss of the Senate in the early 80s. Strategists and historians say these losses occurred because the Democratic party had grown corrupt and out of touch with mainstream America.

DLC and DLC-backed candidates won the Senate back in 1988 and the presidency in 1992, 1996, 2000, and (if some are to be believed) 2004.

They did this by appealing to moderate Democrats and the "vital center" (independents and other who have no consistent political party preference.)

Despite what many on DU contend, it has been proven the DLC had nothing to do with Congressional losses from 1994 on (See "Rubbergate.")

Many disagree with the DLC's pro-defense stance and their fund raising tactics but their position on defense is similar to that of the pre-McGovern era of the party (Woodrow Wilson to LBJ) and it has yet to be shown that other Democrats do not also engage in the same manner of fundraising.

The DLC and the further left have taken snipes at each other for years but the root of it is when some on the left attacked Clinton's centrism even before the '92 election.

10. and the COUNTER DLC arose in response to CONTEMPORARY abuse & losses
by the DLC.

clinton got in because when he campaigned he pandered on a POPULOUS platform (look at his most celebrated/memorial speeches) & spoke weTHEpeoples dialect but governed as a conservative and hawkish (per-usual).

the DLC have lost control of the spin...

Thank GORE, he 'invented' the INTERNETs

peace

3. I trace the DLC to "Reagan Democrats" and three straight Presidential...
election loses.

Clinton's big insight to victory was to aggressively remind "Reagan Democrats" that Reagan/Bush did nothing to help them.

8. The beginnings of the DLC
Conservative and Moderate Democratic party leaders founded the DLC in response to the landslide victory of Republican candidate Ronald Reagan over Democratic candidate Walter Mondale during the 1984 Presidential election. The founders believed the United States Democratic Party needed to shift to the center to remain viable during the Reagan era.

9. The DLC are merely "moderate" Repugs looking for a home.
Same song, same tune, same greed for power. The "not as bad as the republicans" wing of the party.
