NYTimes gets it absolutely right this time.
~snip~ A bit over a week ago, President Bush and his men promised to provide the legal, constitutional and moral justifications for the sort of warrantless spying on Americans that has been illegal for nearly 30 years. Instead,we got the familiar mix of political spin, clumsy historical misinformation, contemptuous dismissals of civil liberties concerns, cynical attempts to paint dissents as anti-American and pro-terrorist, and a couple of big, dangerous lies.

5. They must figure that they've covered for him long enough that they'd
better try and butter up the 'we know better than to think its for our own good' crowd.

Playing both sides.

6. Isn't that the *best* editorial?
The clarity! There's even a defense of Democrats. Amazing.

7. Google
Did they bring up the positive proof that they are spying on the average American. Why else would they take google to court for not handing over their record as AOL. MS and others did.

9. Give 'em credit ; Come on!
Their 'thumbs down on Alito' editorial earlier in the week was unequivocal, succinct, unsparing and utterly persuasive.

Let's just hope that there's someone left on the other side who's capable of *being* persuaded.
