Each time he asked a direct question, Frist gulped and stared forward for a moment, a blank look of panic as if he'd lost control of his bowels. It was amazing to watch. Only his die-hard supporters would come away with the impression that he believed his own answers.

Russert basically grilled Dr. Fristenstein on three major subjects. The first was Bush's anti-Americal wiretapping shenanigans. Dr. F. tried to throw out slogans and give meaningless answers in the hope that everybody would just shut up and let the issue go away, but Timmy kept pressing on. The best response Dr. Fristenstein could come up with was "The Constitution and the bi-partisan War Resolution" gave GWB the right to overthrow the Constitution and spy on citizens.

Issue number two was the Dr.'s insider trading. Fristenstein kept saying that he put the money in a blind trust, and Russert kept countering that it WASN'T a blind trust. Dr. F. would then squirm and say something like "according to Senate rules" it WAS a blind trust.

THe third issue was Dr. Fristenstein's diagnosis of Terry Schiavo as NOT being in a persistent vegetative state, and rather being in "something very different than persistent vegetative state". Russert then pointed out that the autopsy showed that Dr. F. was wrong. "I have no regrets. I'm a doctor. I support life" was his basic response.

Basically, Dr. Fristenstein looked like an idiot today. Russert looked like a journalist. Mark this day on your calendars.
