Chuck Hagel criticized Karl Rove on ABC This Week
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 12:49 PM by MissWaverly
Chuck Hagel was on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos. They showed the clip
about Rove's speech at the RNC about Republicans being Post-911 and Democrats being
Pre-911. George Stephanopoulos asked him if he was a pre-911 Republican. He said that
he believed that NSA should not be used as a strategy for a political party.
George Stephanopoulos responded that Karl Rove was making it a political issue and Chuck
Hagel responded that Karl Rove is wrong. He said that National Security affects all
Americans and it should not be used in a divisive way. He said something at the end
about it having devestating consequences for the party that used it for political
purposes.

With apologies to Rodeodance, I will try to summarize what Chuck Hagel said:

National Security should never be held hostage to a political party, to to a political issue or to an election. American people expect more & they deserve better. I didn't like what Karl Rove said. It frames terrorism, the issue of terrorism and everything that goes with it: the renewal of the Patriot Act or NSA wiretapping in a political context. If we are going to come together as a country to resolve issues...energy, health care and deficit spending.

Then we can't take an issue like National Security and make it a political issue that just fractures who we are as a nation...National Security is more important than the Republican Party or the Democratic Party and to use it to get someone elected will ultimately result in defeat and disaster for that political party.

I don't remember any Republican ever coming out and criticizing Karl Rove before, he has
always been their golden boy.

9. I disagree with other posters, this is a huge development
Chuck Hagel is saying that the country should come before partisan politics, the whole
strategy has been about campaigning since 2000. Bush just said he was going to campaign in 06.

4. Already have. And called. And faxed. But believe me ladies and
gentlemen, this is not an issue where he's going to vote counter to his party's platform.

We can ask, but we shall not receive (in my opinion). We'll just have to wait and see.

10. we have to look at this as a hopeful sign
I am not saying Chuck Hagel for President, what I am saying that the congress needs a major
makeover, if the Republicans can distance themselves from Rove fine. Anything that will
break the grip of those who have now stolen 2 presidential elections.

8. Don't trust Hagel
Hagel was willing to impeach Clinton, but only "criticizes" Rove after all of the shit his party has done. Check out his sanctimonious statement regarding his belief that CLinton should be impeached. "President Clinton's conduct has debased his office and violated the soul of justice--truth. He has thereby debased and violated the American people.

Would he say this about Bush?
He is a good boy and will do as the Republicans tell him. Making a few waves helps him look like he is impartial. He ain't

11. I think that the HAMAS election has had huge repercussions
Suddenly on This Week there were real journalists, no fluff lines like liberal democrats
support Hilliary Clinton, it's in their DNA. Now we are going to ask the UN for help where John Bolton has been kicking butt since Bush gave him a recess appointment last year. Where is the democratic Palestine that Bush promised last year.

14. Hagel is showing a lot of courage going against the grain...
of his Party. I would suspect that he might win the Repub nomination if he continues to challenge this White House. Just a hunch.
