<> 6:20 pm CST -- JAMES BAMFORD, expert on the NSAWe'll talk with James Bamford, one of the preeminent experts on the secretive National Security Agency. The NSA, though it has a budget larger than the CIA, has stayed mostly under the radar. Until now -- the NSA has been dragged into the spotlight with the current furor over the Bush administration's admission that it has been spying on American citizens, though Congress specifically did not authorize that in its FISA legislation which has been in effect for over thirty years.
Jim wrote the first book ever about the NSA, published in 1982: The Puzzle Palace: A Report on NSA, America's Most Secret Agency. It became an immediate bestseller, and is now considered a classic. Bamford has taught, and he spent nearly a decade as the Washington Investigative Producer for ABC's World News Tonight with Peter Jennings where he won a number of journalism awards for his coverage national security issues. His second book on the NSA was Body of Secrets : Anatomy of the Ultra-Secret National Security Agency.
BOOKS by Bamford:
The Puzzle Palace: Inside America's Most Secret Intelligence Organization
Body of Secrets: Anatomy of the Ultra-Secret National Security Agency
A Pretext for War: 9/11, Iraq, & the Abuse of America's Intelligence Agencies
