Iraq News - "SPECIAL" Report
ABC anchor injured in Iraq
29/01/2006 15:58 - (SA)
http://www.news24.com/News24/World/Iraq/0,6119,2-10-1460_1871652,00.html

I mean, I'm really sorry the reporter was injured but the networks
are spending a whole lot of time talking about it with IED explainations
with diagrams and maps and animation of the trucks positions and prayers
and thoughts and sad faces and telling us what 'protective gear' he was wearing and.....
ARGH!!!!!!!
Is it just me that it's starting to piss off??
I mean soldiers are injured, mamied and killed everyday in Iraq
and they do NOT even hardly MENTION IT other than to say;
"Two Soldiers Killed in Iraq today..." etc...
So I guess it's only "worth reporting" when it's one of their own???
Fuck them and the horse they rode in on!!!
I hope he recovers but gheezzz!!
If they're going to cover him in such depth...
then does that mean he matters MORE than the soldiers do???
He wasn't the only one injured or killed!!!!!!

1. And even farther down the food chain
are the Iraqis.

The current exchange rate is roughly: 25 Iraqis = 4 Marines = 1 TV anchor.

7. Oh, I dunno, seems to me like it's
25,000 Iraqis = 4 Marines = 1 major network tv anchor.

And yes, it's pissing me off as well. I hope Woodruff recovers well enough to get home and speak of the hell he's been through.

2. At least they are at last covering the issue. . .
It was the first thought I had this morning: now that someone known to the media has been hit, they'll cover the issue. Sometimes, that's what it takes. . . and yes, it's infuriating, but I'll take what help we can get and overlook the motivation in light of the good it may accomplish.

3. Two newsmen must equal 2000 soldiers--lots of pub for news guys
none for the fallen troops. Sounds fair to me. :sarcasm:

8. Give him his due
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 12:38 AM by Zorro
Woodruff was showing his personal courage in riding with the Iraqis.

This is more than the bootlickers and other Bush administration enablers in the government have done.

He has earned my respect for his decision, and he has my best wishes for a speedy recovery. This is nothing less than I would wish for any casualty in this fiasco in Iraq.

The fact that he is a well-known media personality will make this event that much more pertinent to the American population that invite him into their homes every night during the ABC news broadcast.

Journalists killed in Iraq
21/09/2005 10:14 - (SA)
SNIP-->
"On Monday, Iraqi journalist Fakher Haidar al-Tamimi,
who worked for foreign media in the southern city of Basra,
was shot dead after being taken from his home overnight
by men claiming to be policemen.

These deaths bring to 70 the number of journalists killed in Iraq
since the United States-led invasion in March 2003
and the 21st this year,
according to a toll based on figures from the Paris-based
media rights group Reporters Without Borders.

Other American Journalists and news anchors
have been killed in Iraq also.
They still slowed down on reporting about the soldiers killed.
And so did the newspapers!
THAT was my point!

ABC News team shaken to its core
SNIP-->
Emotions ran high all day, from lows to highs to lows again.
Everyone from news assistants, correspondents and producers
to Good Morning America's Diane Sawyer and Woodruff's co-anchor,
Elizabeth Vargas, gathered in World News' third-floor newsroom
for updates that ABC News chief David Westin periodically
delivered throughout the day.
"It's been a very tough day around here, sobering and scary,"
ABC News spokesman Jeffrey Schneider said.
"At times like this, we need to lean on one another."

Yeah, well so do the families of the military over there
and they'd appreciate more than just passing comments
about thier loved ones who were injured or killed!
:grr:

9. Cronkite affected perception of the Vietnam War...
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 12:50 AM by Polemicist
When he came to the conclusion that the war was lost.

Will the turning point in the perception of the Iraq War, be when a network anchor is wounded in this war? I have been considering this all day. Although Woodruff is very new to his position, he is Peter Jennings replacement. He is one of the Big Three network news anchors. And he has been badly wounded in this misguided war.

Will this affect how the news media covers the war? Will this affect the public's perception of the futility of this war?

11. And how about ALL the other journalists who have been KILLED.
kidnapped, had their hotel rooms ransacked, all with questionable surrounding circumstances? Those journalists don't matter, since many of them were independent and not imbeds.

14. It's not a national tragedy unless the blood spilt has some
anchorman in it I guess.

Dead soldiers aren't tragic their just "answering their nations call." That's not special. We should honor them by not mentioning their loss. Ever. :sarcasm:
