Bush hands ONE QUARTER of $15B tax-funded AIDS money to religious groups
President Bush's $15 billion effort to fight AIDS has handed out nearly one-quarter of its grants to religious groups, and officials are aggressively pursuing new church partners that often emphasize disease prevention through abstinence and fidelity over condom use.

Award recipients include a Christian relief organization famous for its televised appeals to feed hungry children, a well-known Catholic charity and a group run by the son of evangelist Billy Graham, according to the State Department.

The outreach to nontraditional AIDS players comes in the midst of a debate over how best to prevent the spread of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. The debate has activated groups on both ends of the political spectrum and created a vast competition for money.

Conservative Christian allies of the president are pressing the U.S. foreign aid agency to give fewer dollars to groups that distribute condoms or work with prostitutes. The Bush administration provided more than 560 million condoms abroad last year, compared with some 350 million in 2001. Secular organizations in Africa are raising concerns that new money to groups without AIDS experience may dilute the impact of Bush's historic three-year-old program.

4. Corporate welfare,
Kook-right church welfare, Croney-capitalism welfare, Religious welfare. Welfare for all the friends of GW Bush. Where's the outrage? Must be saving it for important matters like the war on Xmas and movies like Brokeback mountain. Could Americans be any more passive about important issues or any more stirred up over RW nonsense points?

18. They only teach the A,
And the A can mean Abstinence, or up the Ass, take your pick. Because they're teaching that only vaginal intercourse is the actual premartial intercourse that will send you to hell. Even the non-religious programs are using the abstinence based condom information that they don't prevent all STD's, so even when parents think their kids are getting traditional sex ed, you still have to be careful about what they're being told. Between religion, science, failing education and the war; we're going to lose an entire generation because of this idiot.

10. Big surprise
(not)

Abstinence programs don't work, primarily because they aren't reality based, and don't promote knowledge of how to actually protect oneself. Once again Bush panders to agenda over results, and people are the losers.

17. Yes, we are so bad because we protest our tax money
going to these lousy hypocrits. this is not the first time ChuckleNuts has given large amounts of money to churches. I read months ago that Robertson had garnered 25 million from Bush and he doesn't even HAVE a church. the monies that churches have already received was supposed to go for feeding and helping the homeless ect. Have you seen or heard of any big efforts to help people from these Godless folk? I haven't. They should be called Houses of Satan, imo.Religion = vomit. And Franklin Graham--ugh.

This is just more payola for the RW whackos who think they are Christians, but who overlook the CORRUPTION and GREED of those they support. Hey, remeber that saw about * saying they just can't give out money to groups without knowing if their leaders were corrupt. The hypocrisy is stunning.

It's good to be king.

January 25

There were cigarette girls passing out smokes, chocolates and even condoms. There were bottles of vodka on the tables courtesy of sponsor Grey Goose. There were fishnet-clad dancers, sporting handcuffs and police hats, gyrating on a pole.

And there, somewhat incongruously, were the Bush twins, hanging among a preppier enclave in the far corner of the club.
