Bill Nelson (R-FL) I'm pouring a cocktail right now. Big decision coming.
When my wife gets home in about an hour, we'll have a discussion. I am definitely going to file to run against Bill Nelson (R-Florida)(Yeah I know, but he doesn't) tomorrow.

What we have to discuss is whether I run a protest campaign against Nelson or a real campaign. I ran for Congress in '04 and she didn't see me for 5 months. If I decide to go for it, I'll open the bank account tomorrow. There are several downsides to running a campaign. I'm about $2 million behind in fundraising, have no organization on the ground yet, and should have started a year ago. Plus, I'm already committed to working a friends congressional campaign.

And, there's a whole lot more to think through tonight.

I'm sick and tired of this guy betraying the base in this state. We work for him, but he never works for us. We need a DEMOCRAT in that seat.

I'll let you know when I decide.

I'm a political science / pre-law student at USF in Tampa. I vowed today to do everything in my power to get a real Democrat in office over Bill Nelson in November. He and Lieberman can go open up a nice Kenny Rogers Roasters, for all I care. But it's time.

weight since 2000. He's my senator, and his responses to my regular emails show no vision or leadership whatsoever.

22. You'll have my support
I have been pissed with Bill Nelson since the 2000 election. He won the state of Florida with about 25,000 more votes than Al Gore recieved in Florida, which did not make any sense to me. He was running for the first time as Senator. I knew that something was real screwy here in Florida, that a second tier candidate received more votes than the top Democrat. Anyway I asked him to sign the petition from the representatives (Corrine Brown) who needed a signature from a senator to protest the Florida returns. (You remember the scene in Michael Moore's movie) Well there he was yucking it up on the floor of the joint meeting of congress on CSPAN. His office told me that he would not sign the petition since he was just elected and it would not be appropriate for this to be his first action.

Today when I called his office and ask that he support the filibuster they told me that Nelson had spoken to 6 of his collegues that were voting for cloture and that there was no way in hell that a filibuster could pass. I said that if he voted against cloture perhaps he could convince his collegues to stand with him. "I will pass your message on to the Senator" was the staffer's reply. He is a fucking spineless wimp. Another "go along to get along".

I will support you and help you. Let us know what you need us to do. Jeanette.

here about Nelson getting a lot more votes than Gore in 2000. Didn't notice that at the time, although a lot of that could have been Nader voters. Anyway, Nelson is a traitor.

30. My wife and I will definitely support your candidacy with $$.
Just as we are supporting Lamont in CN and Cantwell's challenger in our home state of WA. Money that used to go to the DNC, to MoveOn, etc., will now only go to specific candidates until a true, accountable Democratic Party emerges. It will be us, "We the People ..." who will force that emergence.

Peace.

38. I've only
been in Fl a short time. I think Bill Nelson is perfect example of the Dem Party in Fl. The party here in Indian River is an embarrassment. They have taken positions against the NAACP and the unions. I always thought these were mainstays of the Democratic Party.

I'll vote for you.

42. Ok but you have to promise that you will not do anything that would
make it possible for Cruealla Katherine Harris to win. Please think about this very clearly- if we wind up splitting the Democratic and progressive vote in Florida, we risk having her slip in to the seat. Currently, she has little or no chance of winning- even the Republicans know this. But a third Democratic/Liberal candidate could make it possible for her. As much as I cannot stand Nelson, the thought of Senator Harris is beyond horrifying.
