Who's giving the Dem response to the State of the Union?
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 11:03 PM by amerikat
I hope they spend a lot of time discussing the failures of this administration and then present a plan for the future.

We should make a list of failures. I'll start. Feel free to add.

Failed to take seriously the threat of attack prior to 9/11.

Failed in Afghanistan by letting Bin Laden escape and returning the country to the same warlords that harbored him. Failed to bring Afghanistan an economy not based on opium production.

Failed in Iraq. 2000+ dead and 10000 Americans wounded. Over 30000 Iraqi dead and countless thousands wounded, orphaned and traumatized.

Failed the American people by lying about intelligence leading up to the war.

Failed to monitor taxpayer money earmarked for the reconstruction of Iraq.

Failed the American people by Allowing the torture of prisoners in our custody and disgracing the nation by abandoning the Geneva convention.

Failed to........hey wait a minute it's all failure and no successes.

I could go on and on about domestic failures, failures in the diplomacy among nations, etc.

There should be some discussion about our declining standard of living, declining literacy rate, increasing poverty rate, decrease in health care and increase in health care costs, our child mortality rate which reads like a third world countries.

After they beat the repugs into reality with the truth, they need to talk to the people about the future of this country. Tell them we can continue to lose ground by continuing failed policy and supporting inept leaders or we can start to reclaim the high ground by treating other nations with respect, get serious about energy Independence and rethink all our institutions so that they work for the people of this country and not for special interest lobbies.

Well that's my rant.

4. He just got elected in a red state, so he's someone's vision of the future
of the party, apparently. He replaced Warner, another Dem, who's on his way to running for the presidency. The party is trying to figure out how to get a candidate who can take the South. That's the nutshell version, as near as I can tell. Seems we can't put a more liberal voice out there for folks to hear.

7. He's their big "success story" so he gets a reward.
How moronic is that?

You pick someone who can deliver a national response, not somebody who tapped into what would win in one state.

6. Don't hang by your thumbs waiting for that.
Here's what Kaine has in mind:

"Results matter. Planning matters. Management matters, and you can make much more progress if you do it in a bipartisan way," he said.

"I think we have to be much more about an optimistic and positive message," Kaine said of his fellow Democrats. "I think sometimes we perfect the criticism without a positive, forward-looking message."

He ran as a moderate...
