1. I'll be joining you in 10 years and three months (exactly)
That's when I'm retiring to Costa Rica. Until then, I'm stuck here.

4. there is ONE problem I have with that very tempting plan
mainly that our cruise missiles are all (presumably) pointed away from the continent :scared:

but it's true that, if we're ever going to get our country back from these bastards, we'll need friends both inside and out!

and hello, too!!! :hi:

8. I'm out of country right now
among sane people who HATE bushie, except for the few Americans who only watch Faux.

But I intend to leave for good next year.

I realize that some American young folk are politically aware but so many are so damned stupid -- they are unaware of the history about the rights they enjoy today are the results of a very long battle. How can a country that has so much (material goods, etc.) be so damned stupid to vote against their own interest?

How long will the world remain tolerant of Americans? bushie is a nut case -- but who comes after him??????????????????

10. Where will you go? I'm not sure there is any good place

to be today, in terms of political and environmental threats. On the other hand, when I turn my attention away from the threats, I find myself in a good place with much to be happy about. I've realized that I can't do anything much about the current political climate so I'm trying to stop letting it get to me. I've survived Nixon and Reagan and Bush I -- and the warmongering of our own LBJ (and don't forget the ways in which Clinton betrayed Democratic ideals) -- so it would seem that I'll probably survive this, too, and see the pendulum swing back.

I'm not arguing that you shouldn't leave, just saying that most of us can't leave, or won't choose to, and that we will probably survive, assuming the Pakistanis, North Koreans, or Iranians don't nuke us. If anyone deploys nukes, the whole world could be toast. I'm too old to believe in "duck and cover" as an effective shield against radioactive fallout and our government is in no way ready to protect us. (Seen a bomb shelter lately?)

20. This is what they want. They want sincere, educated people
to at least withdraw from public life so that they only have to deal with "dittoheads" who do not ask questions.

This is our country, too and we are not going to give up.

We have elections in 10 months and we have to take back Congress. No, not everyone is thinking the same. Not everyone supported a filibuster - I did not - but every Democrat including, yes, Joe Lieberman, is better than the American Talibans now trying to run the country.

31. Not me. I'll trade you my UK passport for your US one.
I chose to come here; I could have stayed in the UK but I didn't. This country may be broke (in more ways than one) but it doesn't mean that's it's not fixable. Alan Jackson had a song about it... The Talking Song Repair Blues. Unfortunately I can't repair a country for eight hundred bucks but it's a start.

I'm staying for life as far as I am concerned. Though I am blessed with the 'get out of jail free' card if I need it (the jail being the USA rather than actual jail. I don't have a real get out of jail free card, except the one in the monopoly game and that won't do me much good if I get thrown into Gitmo).

Mark.

34. My old one: Cranleigh.
You can even see it on the Ordnance Survey maps:

Though it is a small dot... on the north side of Nanhurst on the east side of the A281 Horsham Road.

Here's more information about Cranleigh from a real estate agents point of view and Ringo does get a mention. http://www.findaproperty.com/area.aspx?areaid=0124&opt=story&storyid=0730

35. I'm leaving the country in April, but why burn your voter card?
I'm going to continue to vote absentee - IN TEXAS. Ha ha.

Seriously, I have other reasons for leaving, but I would not disengage more than necessary. Voting may not always help, but it can't hurt.
