Hear me out, ok?
We are all rightfully disappointed today however we have realized some important things about ourselves. We showed ourselves we could be united despite our minor differences. Did you ever think a bunch of grassroots bloggers and radio personalities putting on the pressure over the weekend would get some of our Senators to listen to us? Early on I had my doubts but now I just have to say WOW! :wow:
Last year they all would of patted us on the heads and told us to be quiet and not make a fuss. OH WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR HAS MADE. Those Senators know we are willing to fight now and that is very scary for them whether they are running in 2006 or not. I say good for us, it was about time. We broke through without the traditional media. Imagine what we could of accomplished if those who spent half as much time belittling the efforts instead of promoting the cause. Can you imagine where the vote tally might have ended up?
Never forget Senators* We aren't the fringe left, WE ARE A VERY VITAL PART OF OUR DEMOCRACY and we are taking names and numbers. We have made great strides in organization believe it or not. Could you have envisioned us getting as far as we did with all those fingers wagging at us and the tsk tsk coming from the lips of the nay-sayers. That, in itself is worth every bit of time I have spent in the last week phoning, faxing and blogging. That is the reason why I will still fight on.
We did this without large amounts money, TV ads and without the big progressive machines going on the MSM and speaking for us. In a year we have moved from being virtually non-existent to a noisy nuisance. That damn cog moves so slowly but at least it is moving.
Let me just say that next week is another battle (NSA) but there is nothing more to accomplish with Alito except a circular firing squad. Do we really need to dissect the hell out of this? If you do, be my guest, it is not for me to judge you. We all have our own ways of working through disappointments. I know it won't bring me any personal revelation as to the mystery of why certain Democratic Senators tend to be spineless.
If you are inclined to go after the traitors then by all means DO IT. I will support you but I don't have the stomach right now for infighting about what should have been done. Make your lists and support new candidates and run baby run. Remember though that just because someone hasn't jumped on your train yet doesn't mean his/her convictions are any less relevant.
Pick your battle, ladies and gentlemen,
If you are hell bent on making elections fair :patriot:, keep doing it. If you are good at promoting candidates :grouphug:, keep doing it. If you wear a hat :tinfoilhat:, keep doing it and I mean this truly. If you want to shoot your fellow progressive in the back because they won't see things through your eyes, :banghead: then just respectfully ABSTAIN.
Again the only thing that has changed since yesterday is how we view ourselves. I love your commitment and I am proud of your dedication. :pals:. I am lucky to volunteer my time with all of you good people so peace for now and let's gear up for next week.
