OK, based on what I've been reading and seeing and what has been leaked from the WH, this is what I expect tonight:
No major congressional initiatives for the forthcoming year. Oh, sure, maybe a few like medical savings accounts but nothing people are going to get excited over or which will embarrass the Admin if they fail to pass them. Of course we will have the usual bullshit about more tax cuts.
On the domestic side Bush will tell us the economy is just perfect, that all those new Walmart jobs are taking the place of the high tech jobs that have been "outsourced" to India and that Mr. & Mrs. John Q Public have nothing to worry about. And boy, if Congress would only pass some more tax cuts we will really be on the road to riches.
Then Bush will 'edumacate' us to correct all that bad thinking about how the war in Iraq is going really bad by telling us that the naughty media has only made it look that way and that in reality is is going just peachy and that "freedom is on the march" in Iraq (citing the wonderful elections) and the Middle East (of course he won't mention Hamas winning). In fact, things are so great he will bring some troops home this year though he won't say how many, when or under what conditions.
With that he'll have a couple of heros from the armed forces stand up and take bows. If he really thought about it he'd interrupt the whole speech, march right up there to the soldiers and pin medals on them, kiss their wives, hug their kids and maybe shed a tear or two. Christ, Tweety would swoon over something like that.
Then it will be "terra, terra, terra" and how he needs the Patriot Act and nevernomind that it stomps on the Constitution, he's gonna keep us safe and 'pertect' us from mean men like Osama and the Iranians who are at this moment plotting to deliver nukes to our shores by perhaps miniaturizing them and tying them to the legs of carrier pigeons and how, Oh Lord, we must do something about it before some Ayatolah has the women in Staten Island wearing burkas. He will wonder aloud why Democratic traitors in Congress hate our freedoms and love terrorists and tie his hands from keeping us oh so safe.
I don't know if he will throw in some gloating about Judge Aleee-toe (the strained pronunciation of that Italian surname annoys me), but I wouldn't be surprised - some red meat for the base. Same with a possible mention about protecting all us married heterosexuals from gays and lesbians looking to break up our marriages and couple with our spouses in dark alleys.
I really can't think of much more in terms of specifics right now. I think the main attempt of the speech will be to try to re-educate us to the idea that he has been tremendously successful, that things are looking up, we are headed in the right direction and that no matter what the polls might say, he is doing a dandy job.
On edit: He will have to say something about energy prices and will make up some bullshit about how winning in Iraq will turn that all around if we will just be patient.
