Evangelicals are pooping in my email! |
|
So I wrote this book, and I wrote an article for DU. Both pieces are highly critical of the blasphemous version of Christianity promoted by the Religious Right and the oppressive culture this type of religious conservatism creates.
Then one day my personal email -- an address not connected with the book or the article -- was invaded by a rabid pack of Evangelicals. Yep, I am being stalked by a pack of right-wing homophobes, simply because I pointed out that Jesus doesn’t say Jack-shit about homosexuality
Some of the personal attacks provided some comedic relief, others were downright disturbing. I figured I would share their thoughts with my cohorts on the Left.
Here is a snippet!
“I am tired of faithless devils, like you, who try to instruct believers on what the Bible says and on how we should behave!!”
“The only thing you have said so far that is true is that you are a hell-bound heathen.”
“I just want you to know that those of us who actually know God and study the Bible are not swayed by your lies.”
“If Jesus is God, as He claimed to be, then He is the One who gave the law to Moses about executing homosexual men.”
“I am very much in favor of their (homosexuals) execution and I fully expect that someday we will do that.”
Not only does Jesus order the execution of homosexual men (not women) but these kooks have been so empowered that they believe that one day national law will order the execution of homosexual men.
I am sure more are on the way

:hi: Sorry to hear your book got that sort of ugly response. Especially at your personal email--that's a bit much to take. I'm also an author, so I know. Just to encourage you, not all Evangelicals are like that. Theologically, I would probably be classified as an Evangelical, and I am horrified to read such hateful statements and bad Biblical scholarship such as you received in those emails. It's wrong of them to be so hateful, and if I can, I apologize on their behalf. It's certainly not how Jesus would behave. I'm sorry.
Enjoy DU--there's a lot of great people here. :)

9. What people need to be doing |
|
is to discover where these people are getting these teachings....and I mean, church, ministry, and reverend. And then pull the same demonizing crap back on them. I'm sick of these cultists running around calling for my death because the only way they can function in life is to find someone to persecute beneath them.

I actually responded to some of the more crazy ones. In a weird way it was kind of fun seeing how a crazy person thinks. They used words like "wicked" and "shaking their fists in God's face" concerning homosexuals and the scum in Washington who support equal rights. A lot of bizarre comments, but not a single Biblical reference. Surprise, surprise...They certainly wouldn't quote the Gospels, because Jesus never supports their view.

6. Well it will be over a bunch of their dead bodies. |
|
What, do they think we're just going to LET them?
Or that the other half of America who is related to us by birth, our brothers and sisters and parents and children are going to LET them?
They're fucking crazy. The only good that comes of their craziness is that they are so far out there that most of their own kids even disown them.
They prove over and over that evolution really works.
If I were you I'd post their names and email addresses and any appropriate references / threats they make on a third party website just in case someone tries something crazy - because they are hooyababa nuts eyeballs rolled back in the head frothing at the mouth snakepit crazy.

7. As a blue voter in a red state, I'm very interested in your book. |
|
I'm wading through a pack of books I got for Christmas, but as soon as that pile starts to lessen, I'll grab ahold of yours.
Sounds very interesting and it's a subject I constantly harp on here at DU: that not all "red staters" have that red state mentality and that we're more purple here in the South than the mid-West is, despite being known as the Bible Belt.
Sorry to hear you're being stalked (or as the Freepers would say, "stocked."). Have you complained to your ISP?

12. Jesus never mentions homosexuality or homosexuals |
|
What they are saying is that if God ordered it in the Old Testament, then Jesus ordered it because God and Jesus are one and the same. So when God made the order, it was actually Jesus doing it.
Unremarkably, they never addressed God ordering the excution of adulterers. Hits too close to home I guess.

17. Jesus didn't have to mention homosexuality |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 10:42 AM by StopThePendulum
Moses did it for him in the book of Leviticus a couple of thousand of years prior. Homosexuality was already against the teachings of Judaism, so Jesus never had to mention it.

why don't you ask about that? It shuts up everybody in my family when I throw that in there because there's only a very few of my fundie family who haven't been divorced. It's fun to watch 'em try to rationalize their way out of that one.

15. Real comical insight into the psychos' minds: |
|
“If Jesus is God, as He claimed to be, then He is the One who gave the law to Moses about executing homosexual men.”
If Jesus is God, then how did he send "his only Son" (himself), and why did he say "Father, why have you forsaken me?" on the cross? Did he die because he lost faith in himself? Maybe because he took all the sins of Man upon himself - and, when he looked at all the sins, he said "Oh, FUCK!"?

18. and the law is the law is the law |
|
doesn't matter if it's moral or not, if it's fair or good or not. If it's the law it must be good.
Authoritarian Personality Disorder - align yourself with power.
And so to follow the argument to its conclusion, murder bad, but "punishing" someone to death is okay, because Jesus or God through Jesus, says so.
Yikes. Gorillas in our midst.
DISCLAIMER: apology to gorillas, who while territorial and defensive, are not actually actively homocidal, unlike humans who require little or no excuse.

16. And, this, my friends... |
|
Is one of the most dangerous threats we face today. Rabid, uncritical, non-thinking, dogmatic, angry, fundamentalist Christianity.
You know, one way to really piss them off is to write back and say, "I believe that God has asked me to point out the hypocrites in the temple and to cast out the false prophets. God has smiled on me by helping me to show some wayward spirits the truth and light. I am proud to say that I have turned a number of souls back to the grace of God!"
That burns 'em up every time!
