10. Cheney to resign....
I've heard it in several places, but it is far from substantiated. Same rumour has Rudy Guilliani appointed as VP to set him up for '08. I do think this will happen, but have no idea on timing.

8. LOL
okay, Sharon, that was the first grin I've had today. Thanks.

I did actually get one yesterday, on the way home in the car. My 5-year-old was telling me that she wanted to make some valentines when we got home. I asked her what sort of valentines she wanted to make and she told me she thought they should be shaped like onions and garlic. Oh, yeah, honey, that'll get the fellas...

24. Actually, it would make sense - and Bush could pick his successor
Cheney's done all he can, he got the Gopher King through two elections, and halfway into his 2nd term. What else is there for Cheney to do? He could still run things from behind the scenes. The investigations plus his health gives him the perfect excuse to step down.

BushCo would then be free to name Cheney's replacement, and give that person a head-start on the '08 nomination. Cheney is too old to run for prez. Wanna bet that if Cheney does step down, Condi gets the nod?

who actually holds the office, as well. As we can see with shrub, they just want a figurehead. What better figurehead than Condi? It would be a way for the repukes to dispell any sort of lingering racism/misogyny taint - "what, us racist? Misogynist? Just because we're against affarmative action and let blacks drown? Because we're against R&W and ERA? How can you say that. *We* had a female vice president first. *And* she was black! Before the so-called liberal democrats, even. How can you cal us racist and misogynist!"

And the majority of the American people are stupid enough to fal for it too.

Pappy is pulling all the strings, make no doubt. Remember, Cheney worked for him. I have no doubt that Cheney was Pappy's main man in the WH, to keep an eye on his wayward son. But now it's time to set the stage for '08. Cheney won't run, and the gophers have no love lost for McCain despite his constant ass-kissing. I think it's clear the gophers want Condi Rice as their nominee. Hell, she's black and she's a woman. Shit, they got all their bases covered with her! Is it any coincidence she's risen so far up the ladder so quickly? Before Bushie came to office, who had even heard of her?

I think it would be great to have a black woman president, just not Condi. Besides having a personality deficit, she seems to also lack good common sense. She may be one of those intellectuals who just isn't good at managing or seeing the big picture.

55. CHENEY FAILS AT EVERYTHING HE DOES
Resignation, impeachment, or withering into oblivion are his only destinies.... This archived Rolling Stone article is a must-read.

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/6450422/the_curse_of_dick_cheney

-snip-

This pattern of misplaced confidence in Cheney, followed by disastrous results, runs throughout his life -- from his days as a dropout at Yale to the geopolitical chaos he has helped create in Baghdad. Once you get to know his history, the cycle becomes clear: First, Cheney impresses someone rich or powerful, who causes unearned wealth and power to be conferred on him. Then, when things go wrong, he blames others and moves on to a new situation even more advantageous to himself.

"Cheney's manner and authority of voice far outstrip his true abilities," says Chas Freeman, who served under Bush's father as ambassador to Saudi Arabia. "It was clear from the start that Bush required adult supervision -- but it turns out Cheney has even worse instincts. He does not understand that when you act recklessly, your mistakes will come back and bite you on the ass."

Cheney's record of mistakes begins in 1959, when Tom Stroock, a Republican politician-businessman in Casper, Wyoming, got Cheney, then a senior at Natrona County High School, a scholarship to Yale. "Dick was the all-American boy, in the top ten percent of his class," Stroock says. "He seemed a natural." But instead of triumphing, Cheney failed. "He spent his time partying with guys who loved football but weren't varsity quality," recalls Stephen Billings, an Episcopalian minister who roomed with him during Cheney's freshman (and only full) year at Yale. "His idea was, you didn't need to master the material," says his other roommate, Jacob Plotkin. "He passed one psych course without attending class or studying, and he was proud of that. But there are some things you can't bluff, and Dick reached a point where you couldn't recover."

58. I don't think you can say Cheney failed at everything he did.
I admit, I haven't followed his career, but he was successful as CEO at Halliburton, and I'm positive Halliburton LOVeS him right now! As VP he has helped them more than they ever hoped for.

You can't say the same for Shrub! The words Failed at everything he tried really apply to HIM! He's tried lots of businesses and Daddy's buds had to bail him out. He was handed the Presidency, and he failed at that too!

76. Sorry, he was not successful as CEO at Halliburton either.
Here's what the Rolling Stone article says about it:

Halliburton was Cheney's first real chance to get rich; he grabbed it with both hands. His principal action was his acquisition of a subsidiary called Dresser Industries. Dresser struck lucrative deals with Saddam Hussein; Halliburton did business with Muammar el-Qaddafi and the ayatollahs of Iran. By the time Cheney left in 2000, Halliburton's stock was near an all-time high of fifty-four dollars a share. Then it turned out that Dresser had saddled Halliburton with asbestos lawsuits that could cost the company millions, and the stock plummeted to barely ten dollars a share. Even with the bounce Halliburton stock has received from the war, an investor who put $100,000 into the company just before Cheney became vice president would have less than $60,000 today. Cheney, meanwhile, continues to receive $150,000 a year in deferred compensation from Halliburton, even though he is supposed to divest himself of all conflicts of interest. The company has been awarded $8 billion in contracts by the Bush-Cheney administration for its work in Iraq.

57. What John Dean said last November is still true
Will Libby flip? Unlikely. Neither Cheney nor Libby (I believe) will be so foolish as to crack a deal. And Libby probably (and no doubt correctly) assumes that Cheney - a former boss with whom he has a close relationship -- will (at the right time and place) help Libby out, either with a pardon or financially, if necessary. Libby's goal, meanwhile, will be to stall going to trial as long as possible, so as not to hurt Republicans' showing in the 2006 elections.

So if Libby can take the heat for a time, he and his former boss (and friend) may get through this. But should Republicans lose control of the Senate (where they are blocking all oversight of this administration), I predict Cheney will resign "for health reasons."

64. How many billions did the oil companies make? It's reap-it-in time.
Besides you will make fewer waves from a private life then if indicted while in office.
And you will make fewer waves when called to Europe for the trials.

71. For those of you who have a Capitalist streak:
http://news.us.newsfutures.com/market/market.html?symbol=DICKGON2

Dick Cheney will resign as VP before his 2nd term is up
Each DICKGON2 contract that you buy will be worth X$100 if Dick Cheney resigns from his post as Vice President of the United States before the end of his 2nd term. Otherwise, it will be worth nothing.

72. How sad and pathetic that National Review Online has to stoop to
publishing even more flagrant lies, just to generate a few hits.

74. I bet he does resign. I heard that Tom Ridge has offered him a job
as an assistant manager at a Home Depot in Little Rock.

77. This may conveniently happen before the 2006 elections....
so that Republicans appear less corrupt.
