Four dems voted to confirm Alito
Robert Byrd, Kent Conrad, Tim Johnson, Ben Nelson

I'm most disappointed in Byrd.

1. Me too.
But with his distinguished service in the Senate, I just don't know what to think.

2. I see one Republican voted no.
I have to give Chaffee credit for that.

I'm somewhat relieved Bill Nelson did not vote to confirm but still ticked off about yesterday.

But the good news is, a DUer is gonna fight him in the primary. Dr. Phool. He announced it last night. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2420463

3. Have you seen the banner on his web site? LOL.
It reads: Leadership. Character. Commitment.

What. a. joke.

4. Let's hope the 'Commitment' proceedings
get underway soon. We can't take too much more of this kind of 'Leadership.'

10. His "explanation" of his support of Alito is pure bull
It has to be the most twisted rationalization I've ever seen.

My stomach is in a precarious balance right now and I'm quite sure I would vomit.

6. He needs to retire a.s.a.p.
Actions are more important than words -- and he is a phony. Either that or the bushie spy machine has some really nasty stuff that he's been hiding. Hell what could be worse than being a member of the KKK?

In the end the good old southern boys retreat back to their bigotry.

16. Byrd is up for reelection this year
The filing deadline was january 28. He is being challenged in the primary by Billy Hendricks Jr. in the may 9 primary.

7. Conrad, Johnson, and Nelson are DLCers
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 04:33 PM by Selatius
Unfortunate for the DLC that of the four who voted with the Republicans, 75% of them are members of the DLC. How will this fact reflect on the DLC in general? The people will decide.

15. Wasn't Byrd close to a god here three months ago?
Tough crowd.

Though, I kept trying to warn folks that he was inherently conservative.

17. It is kind of funny
Byrd could treat gays like total shit for decades and we were churlish to bring that up but let him vote for Alito and now he is evil incarnate.

21. Not by my standards.
Doesn't necessarily have to be the same people changing their minds. Could be a different set of folks being vocal about him.

22. Byrd is on his knees.
I think he's too old to withstand much of the right wing slime and smear machine that he's facing in the campaign ahead. He has basically surrendered in hopes of appeasing the Nazis and being elected just one more time. Personally, I'd quit long before surrendering.
