Would You Support An Anti-Semite Giving the State of The Union Response?
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 07:15 PM by ruggerson
Or a racist? Or an anti-Asian bigot? Or someone who hated people with red hair? Or left handed people?

So, why do some of you expect us to support Tim Kaine?

Many gays and lesbians compromise all the time. Many of us will support a candidate who opposes same sex marriage, even though we feel it is a Faustian bargain. But we understand political realities.

But expecting us to support a candidate who opposes CIVIL UNIONS is asking way too much. There is little political fallout from supporting civil unions, about 70% of the country supports them.

Until this guy changes his stand, he can expect real opposition from many of us.

And guess what? We'd stand up and shout if he was a racist or an anti semite or a misogynist also.

Too bad some of you can't see the moral need to stand up for your gay brothers and sisters, when a politician goes one step too far.

on edit; typo

1. Kaine
I think you mean Tim Kaine.

When everybody was so pleased that he was elected Gov of VA, I wondered if they really knew his background. I lived there for years.

9. I was pleased because he defeated Kilgore
who I agree with on NOTHING. At least I agree with Kaine on SOMETHING.

3. We are taking giant leaps backward every day
I've seen some complain here about this and make plans to get their complaints heard. There are several news and political organizations who will be taking feedback after the speech. I'll be sure to mention this bit as well.

5. Fucking sick if you ask me.
I am so angry. I guess civil rights is not "cool" right now. I wonder what party actually supports civil rights?

Of course I do know that there are some very strong Democrats who are totally behind equal civil rights for everyone but parading one who is not is really bugging me too.

7. That's a perfect way to frame the question.
The whole concept of 'marriage', as it exists in the USA today,
is actually a pretty weird blurring of the church/state line.
So that is neither her nor there in this discussion.

But Civil Unions? Those are simply LEGAL AGREEMENTS.
CONTRACTS.

If you believe that our GAY neigbors don't have the right to
CIVIL UNIONS, then they don't have the right to any other CONTRACTS either.

No bank loans, no business licenseses, no right to own property of any sort...
This isn't a "slippery slope", it's a clearcut line between
a level playing field and a thousand-foot drop!

Saying that people cannot enter into 'civil unions' is
just a polite way of saying that they are less than human.

If gays don't have the right to enter into CONTRACTS,
then why pretend they have any rights at all?

FUCK Tim Kaine!
Crucify his hateful ass upside-down,
and FUCK him in the heart!
