My view on tonight's speeches ........
I did not listen to fuckwit's SOTU because I didn't want to trouble my lovely mind (and because I'd get the essence of it here on DU). Neither did I listen to Kaine or Pelosi or Kerry or anyone else.

Why?

Its pointless, really.

For the SOTU, it was predictable. Campaign 06/08 opening volley. Big Fucking Deal.

For the Dem responders ..... they weren't talking to me. I'm the base. I'm a lefty. I don't need to be convinced of anything their words might convey. I prefer to judge them by their actions.

Action talks. Bullshit walks.

But neither will I condemn them for anything they'd say in response to the SOTU.

They. Are. Not. Talking. To. Me.

They're talking to the sheeple. And that calls for different words and a different message than what I need to hear.

So I don't applaud them nor condemn them.

They weren't talking to me.

2. i disagree, and here's why
I respect your passion and your opinion, but we definitely look at this differently. Where we get in trouble are when we send mixed messages and they use the pandering or "flip flop" labels on us. How can we say that Kaine should give a different message in one setting and a different message in another. The Republicans never do that. They stick to a postion, no matter how wrong (think NSA, think gay marraige, think war in Iraq) and they make it conventional wisdom. Not us, we can be all over the board. Kaine is a homophobe and if it's okay for him to be the "face" of the Democratic Party, than we need to get used to a lot more losing. Again, that's my opinion. But we definitely see this differently.

3. Yes, Kaine seems to be a homophobe, and would not have been my choice
But he *was* the choice of the party. And as to his anti-gay stance, that's largely unknown to the sheeple outside of Virginia. So long as he stays off that topic (I assume he did), no harm done. He got an 'approved' message out. So, to me, his speaking was a neutral.

If I had the choice, I'd have picked a non-DC Dem with creds and balls.

4. Good reasoned response.
My point is, that I'm getting skewered for, is that the more we try to chase the "center" voter, the worse off we're going to be as a party. Honest to God, i think we have to lose 50 elections before we learn that.

5. thankfully,
the republicans will fall out of favor (nostradamus' prediction, not mine, hehe) before the dems* have to sell their souls to gain office.

7. You'll get no argument from me
Triangulation is so last century.

Seriously, it is time to show a sharp and clear difference between us and them. Not wimpy. Strong and determined, jaw thrust forward and sleeves rolled up.

I'm sure there are others like that.

If it absolutely must be a DC insider (and I know full well it doesn't), then we have BoxerandKennedyandConyersandKerryandDurbinandRangelandManyOthers.

6. Kaine was NOT the choice of the party
He was the choice of Reid and Pelosi.
