I kept waiting to hear how the mission to Mars was going since this time

I guess wasn't focusing on updates or maybe he didn't want to toot his own horn.
Maybe he spent that money helping Laura fight gang violence last year, or maybe spent it helping seniors get the "choices" they need.

Maybe he thought we forgot about Mars, or maybe he forgot about it.

If it is something you are really interested in. A mission such as this takes so much time that not much will change year to year. Take a look at the next rover going to Mars. Cool stuff if your into it. My 5 year old got me back into it. He watches the videos and gets excited about the missions.
