I'm worried about Rep. Woolsey (Sheehan arrest)
Rep. Woolsey is facing a stiff primary challenge from the former state Assemblymember, Joe Nation. I thought she would win, but Nation pulls many votes from more moderate voters and gets support from the business community. He's our Assemblyman, so he has a large base of support. Woolsey has support in her district but many are not thrilled with her.

I think this Sheehan arrest may hurt her badly. When I first saw that Woolsey had given the ticket to Sheehan, I was concerned. I knew it may not go over well with her district. With the arrest, I'm very worried.

This district is very liberal but it is mostly professional. We are very conservative about some things and if this is perceived as being disrespectful to a government institution, then Woolsey will be hurt. Most are anti-war but we'll see. I'll be interested to see how this is written up in the local media.

2. I don't understand your meaning
Are you implying that it won't hurt her in this district. Do you have specific knowledge of this district? I live here.

7. The arrest of a Gold Star mother for wearing a t-shirt
containing the number of casuaties in Iraq is an outrage. If it is played right it will be as disastrous to Republicans as the Schiavo escapade.

21. Capital police are apologizing to Sheehan and have dropped charges
http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/news/news-bush-speech-sheehan.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

This should defuse the issue. Also some Rep Congressman's wife was shuffled off, too, for exercising from tee-shirt speech.

i hope she is safe in calif. do you think this woman had a clue that sheehan would do this? i would like to know. to give a ticket and then sheehan do something like this, just bad form. and again i will say. sheehan is not a democrat. her cause isnt the democratic party. it is the iraq war. i can respect and support her on that. she has no problem at all hurting the democratic party. that is not a good thing for the democrats to embrace. respect her for what she is doing and accomplishing. support her. but man, if woolsey didnt have a clue, if she trusted cindy to behave, then i am not impressed with cindy's actions at all

9. Woolsey is a strong anti-war activist
I'm not convinced that Cindy did anything wrong, but I doubt Woolsey or Sheehan expected this. I'm just worried how it's perceived here at home.

8. Well so be it...if the people of that district wants a repug over a dem
then that is the way it will be...the repugs have corruption, lying, going to war on lies, Libbie indicted, rove under a cloud, and much more, but if bring cindy sheehan to the speech and the people of your district wants a repub then what can I say..

10. It's a primary opponent...another Dem
A republican would never win in this district. Nation is not as progressive as Woolsey, but he is not a Republican. In most areas of the country, he would be considered a liberal.

some parts of this country. Luckily, I think she comes from one of those regions.

13. This Lynn Woolsy???!!!
She may be facing one of her toughest primary fight but I don't think Sheehan's actions will have an impact. Representative Woolsey has been a strong vocal anti-war advocate since the sabres started rattling.

From her website...
http://woolsey.house.gov/legislationissues.asp?ARTICLE4936=4951

While I strongly oppose the use of force in Iraq, I believe that we need to implement a strong inspections regime through the United Nations that will disarm Iraq and ensure it does not threaten its neighbors or America.

Highlights of actions opposing a pre-emptive war against Iraq
•Joined the lawsuit seeking to bar President Bush from launching a war in Iraq without a Congressional declaration of war.
•Spoke out against war at the Progressive Caucus Alternative State of the Union event on January 27, 2003.
•Delivered speech at the January 18, 2003 peace rally in San Francisco.
•Cosponsor of H. J. Res. 20, Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR) legislation to repeal the authorization of force against Iraq
•Signed the Sherrod Brown (D-OH)/ Ron Kind (D-WI) letter to President Bush urging him to support weapons inspections in Iraq.
•Signed September 5, 2002 letter to President Bush asking him to respond to an extensive list of tactical and strategic concerns about a war in Iraq.
•Signed July 26, 2002 letter to President Bush declaring that he must seek Congressional approval for military action against Iraq.
•Voted against H. J. Res. 14, the authorization of force in Iraq.

15. i have confidence in Californian's.
Sheehan was the victim after all. She did nothing wrong. Maybe best action is to encourage Sheenan to visit Woolsey's district. American's should be up in arms . This arrest should be the illegal action. I hope I get to vote for Cindy over Feinstein.

17. Joe Nation is really Republican with a D beside his name, he's a nasty
son of a bastard.

Lyn has strong support in her district, but you're right to raise alarms about Joe Nation. Joe Nation has CORPORATE backing to the hilt, and he's been a big drag on this party in California State Legislature, votes with the Repukes, (and Arrnold) has Real Estate Developers and (i wouldn't be surprised to learn Gallo and Monsanto turns up on his donor list) ...

good of you to sound this alarm, the subject needs attention, and Lyn Woolsey needs support.

She and John Conyers have been working close together on Impeachment issues, Out of Iraq legislation and so on.

Come to think of it, i would be a bit surprised to learn of KKKROVE getting involved in backing Joe Nation, along with the Bush Fuding Machine. Joe Nation will never pursue or join the battles that Lyn Woolsey has engaged in.

Cindy will be the story, and it will be front and center above the fold.

19. Called Lynn Wolsey yesterday
Well. Today Cindy got an apology from the House goons. Cindy might sue for having her rights violated. Think this will help Rep. Woolsey. I suggest and hope Cindy might go to Lynn's district and tell her story. The people of Marin have brains and use them. Hope this means Rep. Woolsey's margin will be like 70% over a sell out like Nation.

25. It was only one of the reasons the Cindy "arrest" happened at all...
I believe the Cindy incident happened for a number of reasons and it was made possible by the stupidity of the Capitol Police. (1) It was done to embarrass Rep. Woolsey and her campaign. (2) It was done to rally the Bush "base". (3)It was done to bolster the "All Liberals are traitors" meme with the general electorate. (4) It was done to enrage the Left/Progressives so they would spend all their time talking, blogging, discussing that instead of the sh*t in the SOTU.

I think it was successful on all counts.
