News media saying Cindy was"warned" about wearing the tshirt?
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 01:27 PM by caligirl
Our NBC affiliate anchor Brent Cannon repeated a news point that Cindy Sheehan had been warned about wearing the tshirt. Based on Cindy's statement, that never happened.
I contacted NBC11 in the Bay area and gave them the statement to correct their news story. I hope you will too if you hear this. They are using someother report and not their own reporting when they make that false statement.

1. From my experience only...
It is entirely probably that she was warned. I used to be an elevator operator in the Capitol, and the rules of conduct in the House and Senate Chambers are very strict. Back when I was there (a long time ago when it was even less strict than now), you were verbally warned and given a sheet of paper with the rules printed on them.

2. I guess the first rule should be "no lying", given to the legislators.
After that who cares who's wearing what.

3. I called AP in DC and they are sticking by their story as they

credit the 'warning' statement to Officer Schnieder not Cindy. The story was written before Cindy's statement went out at truthout or kos. I just hate to see the news media get away with this.

5. By Cindy's account she was not warned...
Now, I have no PROOF as so many people seem to demand that Cindy's version is the correct one.

However, after seeing the "crack reporting" that the MSM has done lately (for example: "Miners alive! Oh wait..." and "Obama: Against filibuster!" says AP, well that's not really true but since the AP sez it, our local affiliate will use it as the truth and repeat it all weekend) I'll give Cindy's version of the events the benefit of the doubt...

In addition, as Mike Malloy read on his program last night, t-shirts, pins or buttons are not considered "banned" items from the Capitol buildings...

6. I just don't know...
When I worked there some of the greatest guys were the Capitol Police, they really do a great job considering the pressure they are under. So I would really have to be convinced they were involved in something nefarious. I know that tensions are inflamed, but it is possible that it was a misunderstanding...I guess since I wasn't there I will never know for sure.

7. I don't doubt that for a minute...
I have friends that work in DC, too. We all know how different admins can pressure employees...

This * admin has a history of no tolerance for free speech... I even wondered if the person who grabbed her was 'really' a member of the Capitol Police... I mean, how many times have people posed as Secret Service and dragged people out of town hall meetings?

did here>>

"Believing that the Capitol Police needed guidance in determining what behavior constitutes a demonstration,” the United States Capitol Police Board issued a regulation that interprets “demonstration activity” to include: parading, picketing, speechmaking, holding vigils, sit-ins, or other expressive conduct that conveys a message supporting or opposing a point of view or has the intent, effect or propensity to attract a crowd of onlookers, but does not include merely wearing Tee shirts, buttons or other similar articles of apparel that convey a message.”

4. But ...
based on Cindy's own statement, the shirt she was wearing was from an earlier function with John Conyers she had just left and the only reason she unzipped her jacket was because she was hot after having climbed ALLLLLL those stairs. Furthermore, the Officer never asked her to zip her coat back up. He just screamed "Protester!" and dragged her out. She says that had she been asked she would have zipped the coat back up (or put it back on, I forget).

By comparison, the Repug Congressman's wife refused to put her jacket back on, argued with the Officer, was NOT forcibly removed, but, instead, respectfully escorted, was not arrested or incarcerated and, in addition, her husband took the House Floor this morning to bellyache about poor wifey getting the boot. Is that going to be in the Bay Area reporter's report? Probably not.

Perhaps we should edumicate him. ;)
