Oy - Chris Matthews equates being a "real person" |
|
as someone who makes $50K a year. To me this is capitalism run amok. Being a real person has nothing to do with how much one makes a year or what they do to make it.
"Real people" care about their quality of life, yes. They care about their neighbors and comunities. They have a moral code, that may or may not come from religion.
Good Lord, America is in trouble if we insist on exporting capitalism as well as democracy. And the world is in trouble if America has her way. Bush/GOP capitalism is as big a threat (or bigger) as communism ever was.

27. Quick question re: incomes |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 07:52 PM by neverevergivein
Forgive my ignorance please, this is meant as respectful as I can be. Some of the posts on here make reference to how much income their family lives off of. I am amazed and in awe, but at the same time, shocked, if what I'm reading is true. I readily admit I come from a background that is way more privileged than I deserve. We're not super rich, but we do fine. Myself however, I make a good income (higher than Chrissy boy's real person threshhold) and I struggle to live within the budget. My wife works too, makes roughly the same amount, and we're always going paycheck to paycheck. So, my question is, How in the world do those of you who make less than the Chris Mathews real person line, do it? It is amazing and inspiring, but incredibly unfair. I totally tip my cap to you, and hope circumstances change and you'll never have to think about such a question again.
Sincerely, Bobby
i guess I should add: someone said they are supporting a family of 3 on $12,000 a year? That's a mom/dad of the year and definitely deserve some support/recognition. Or am I just an idiot and this is more standard than I think?

I used to be real, but since I've been self-employed, I'm apparently not so real anymore.

Overpaid corporate whore that he is. And like you said, what does income have to do with being real?

but how the hell can we send "couldbe/would be" terrorists to college to train for $50K per year jobs when we can't even do that for American children?

They really only care about the top 2% anyway, but what I don't get is that if you kill the rest of us off with all this neglect, who is going to "serve" them... and who is going to make things for them to buy?

22. I think he's trying to say that real people are working-class people. |
|
To someone like Tweety, $50K is peanuts.
I doubt he meant only people who make OVER that amount.
Of course, his ignorance of the fact that many, many households live on MUCH less than that is still appalling, but...

for anyone who wants an exact context of what he said. The "real people" label got to me, although I missed some of the preamble to it. I'll be rewatching at 7 PM to make sure I have the context.
