Mary Landrieu's Statement on Alito:
<http://landrieu.senate.gov/hurricanes/index.cfm>

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., released the following statement today regarding the nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. to succeed Sandra Day O'Connor as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Sen. Landrieu is a member of the so-called "Gang of 14," a bipartisan group of Senators who last spring brokered a compromise to permit a floor vote on contentious judicial nominees while allowing the Senate to move on to other matters important to Louisiana voters and the nation.
Sen. Landrieu said:
"Because we have such a full plate of pressing issues before Congress, a filibuster at this time would be, in my view, very counterproductive. It is imperative that we remain focused on creating the tools New Orleans, Louisiana and the Gulf Coast will need to rebuild. This includes passing the Baker bill and allowing our state to keep its fair share of offshore energy revenues. We simply cannot afford to bring the Senate to a halt at a time when we need its action the most. If called to vote for cloture on Judge Alito's nomination, I will vote yes.
"I will continue to consult with constituents, groups, organizations and colleagues to decide on my final vote. I do think it is important that we have an up or down vote."

1. MYYYYYY MUNNNNEEEEEE is at stake!
"To hell with the rest of you hosers, I wasn't about to give up a few bucks for the state of Louisiana to save the country from another completely inappropriate fascist on the bench who will likely poison the court for the next 20 years. If I let them threaten MY MUNNNEEE, the voters might fire me next election!"

14. Isn't that who her responsibility is to?
And it's not just a few bucks. Perhaps she doesn't see him as a fascist. That word seems to be thrown around very loosely these days. She did what the people of her state sent her there to do and that is look after their interests.

4. Full Plate Of Pressing Issues???????
So a bunch of REPUBLICAN issues are on your plate? You don't actually expect to get any democrat issues handled, do you? I'm glad you were able to avoid that nasty filibuster, so you can move forward with the REPUBLICAN AGENDA. You frickin' idiot. Thanks for nothing.

6. Americans did not turn their backs on NOLA and LA but the Admin. did
Why would she turn her back on Americans when she voted to put a RW idealogue on the SC for a lifetime appointment.

I don't get it and quite frankly I'm offended by her statement.

7. Landrieu fails to see big picture
If she would take a minute and look over his record, she will see that he is a great threat to her constituents and that a couple of days is WORTH protecting the rights of her constituents....

When Bush is challenged for mismanagement of Katrina, you bet your bottom dollar that Alito will undermine all your efforts to secure your constituents.

10. Full plate?
With the track record of this Senate in consideration, anything and everything that could possibly take up your time and prevent more odious product emanating therefrom would be a blessing of Biblical proportions.

Save your pathetic excuses, we've heard them all before.

12. Sounds like someone threatened her offshore energy revenues
Who could that be? CORRUPT REPUBLICANS?

It does appear that she is awfully supportive of the Repuke agenda.

15. LA was getting around 10% of the oil royalities
They now stand to gain 50% which would mean billions to a state that is poor and desperately needs it.

13. I hope the people of LA vote this bitch out of office
She's not doing anything to help them, all these months later they still don't have their lives back. Now she's screwing with their futures, and the future of their children and grandchildren by having a bunch of right wing wackos on the SCOTUS.

Vote the bitch out, make this one of the last times she screws Louisiana.
