Daughter needs HELP on research paper re: paper ballots |
|
My daughter is doing a High School research paper and speech on paper ballots and why they are the better way to go. I know a lot of you guys have done a lot of stuff regarding paper ballots, Deibold and the like. I hate to say it but I have lost track of most of that stuff. If anyone can list both old and new DU links or some other helpful links that would be great. Her teacher is waiting with baited breath for this speech so it will need to be really good.

1. Two recommendations... |
|
Call me picky, but wouldn't it be better for her to write a paper on all methods of elections and then reach a conclusion, instead of writing a paper about why one method is better? No offense, but it seems like it would be more "academic".
Anyhow, this site has a lot of what you want: www.blackboxvoting.org

3. She is researching all methods. Her conclusion is that paper is the way |
|
go. She needs info on any alternatives out there but she doesn't want to go with any hackable technology. That is her feeling on this issue.

5. Canada does paper ballots |
|
and everything is counted, certified and sealed in time for the 11 p.m. news.
Why does the US need voting machines of any sort?

11. Yeah, I think that's is where she got the idea initially. She never |
|
listens to her mother anymore. I know I talked about this non-stop after the last two elections but it took her 8 years to notice! Kids! Gotta love em'.
Someone in the election forum posted a little about how they do it. We could certainly benefit from the Canadians experience on this one!

13. Yep, paper ballots, counted by hand AT THE PRECINCT (so no funny |
|
business with ballot boxes ending up in the river, or being massively stuffed) with plenty of observers from all parties, is absolutely the way to go. Even if it might take a bit longer, we should be able to deal with a little delayed gratification in the most important element of a democracy.
Oh, but wait - WHAT was I thinking??? No big corporations can make megabucks off of hand-counted paper ballots.<smacks self on forehead>

6. Oddly enough I got a flyer last nite at a SOTU/We Can't Wait protest |
|
about paper ballots. Here's the website on the flyer: www.studycaliforniaballots.org. There was also a couple of contact phone numbers: Judy Alter 310-559-8987 or Mary Jacobs 323-260-4895. Should definitely get your daughter started.

7. Paper Ballots some great links |
|
http://ChuckHerrin.comHe is a white hat hacker that encourages people to use what is on his site to further the cause of hand counted paper ballots. Here is a link to a recent Hack in Florida that really brings it home and it is the Miami Herald which teacher will like: http://votetrustusa.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=509&Itemid=113 This explains why what is available should be de-certified: http://votetrustusa.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=509&Itemid=113and finally here is an article where a mass. town sticks with paper and defends it: http://votetrustusa.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=675&Itemid=113Bless her heart! http://NoBullshiRt.com
