Bush stole another Democrat idea and is running away with it...
This liar did not want anything to do with ethanol or any other thing that had to do with exploring different fuel technologies. Now he's running all over the country acting like these are his and his partys' ideas. Where are the democrats?

1. Personally I don't care who gets credit for it
as long as they actually do something and not just talk about it. If we get into "that was our idea" we might look a bit childish.

14. The problem is when he says he is going to do something there is always
a catch like when he didn't fund no child left behind after he got kennedy with him on it and then acted as though it was a bipartasian bill, thats why I don't trust them to do whatever he says. Some way it will go to a certain group of people and will effect the majority of people in a negative manner.

2. Except today's NYT says he just cut budgets on renewable energy research.
And where are the Democrats on this? They are certain to be all over the liberal media - which means they can reach exactly 5% of the population.

4. I question your motive
Why not be glad the president agrees with you on something? Does everything have to be negative? One of the few positives from the SOTU speech was an emphasis on bipartisan efforts. Your blaming the president for stealing an idea is a negative attitude with underlying "politicking" motives (i.e. brandishing the president and republicans). Everyone, including the president, knows that environment-conscious energy is a democratic issue. Just be glad it's getting support on all levels now.

5. bhewitt- Have a look at the front page.
You will see that WH aides are already backpedaling about this very issue.

Again, Bush is lying. Why not call him a liar?

6. Why can't you be consistent?
When Bush spoke out against ethanol and alternative fuels, conservatives poured out of the woodwork and agreed with him that alternative fuels are Bad For The Economy and that the only possible solution to our foreign oil dependence was to drill in ANWR. Now he's said the complete opposite, and predictably, conservatives are pouring out of the woodwork to defend this.

So which time was Bush and his supporters telling the truth? Both sets of statements can't possibly be true.

8. Maybe because Bush has a bad track record
He says one thing, often using Democratic buzz words, but he does the opposite.

Yesterday, Senator Kerry answered that on the Today show:

COURIC: Senator, the president certainly insisted that he wants to be headed in that direction, so the question is will the Democrats work with him in order to get there?

KERRY: Well, of course, we’ll work with him if it’s real. But remember Social Security, and you remembered it from last night. The president said he wanted to reform Social Security and strengthen it, and what he did, in fact, was send up legislation that once again played to special interests, played to his friends. It was a terrible plan that even Republicans didn’t embrace.

So when the president talks about these things in a State of the Union message, it really falls far short of the reality of what he presents

9. Since's Bush's partisanship is failing...
No wonder he's talking "bipartisan." Does he know what it means?

Yes, he'll talk about "alternate energy." I'm sure he'll set up a commission to do a study. Funding for various corporations' studies? Sure! Oh--& it's time to drill in Alaska, too. But he'll not provide real money.

Most of us have known about our oil addiction for many years. Why has it taken so long for him to speak up?

As a Texan, I'm quite aware that Bush is an oilman. Even though he was never a successful one.

12. Allow me to offer you an example of Bush's "bipartisanship"
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 03:41 PM by hatrack
"We look forward to working with those who share our views." - George W. Bush, commenting on upcoming legislative plans, 3 November, 2004.

I also suggest you check the LBN and Environment/Energy boards for information on just what this administration is really doing in terms of research, development and energy "independence".

I have no objection to alternative energy. I have extremely strong objections to deceptions, greenwash and lies.

16. He doesn't have a bipartisan bone
in his body. All this idiot can do is lie, lie, lie. Do you really think that he wants to cut off his relationship with the Saudi family? He could give a shit less about my wallet or yours. He's the WORSE thing that has ever happened to this country.

By the way, welcome to DU.

I see this more and more here at DU. I really hope this Rovian/Owellian moniker is not starting to stick with DUer's and the American Public. :scared:

17. NOW you recognize Dems have an energy plan
Where was the left in 2000 and 2004 when they pretended Democrats didn't have these plans and were oil grubbers just like Republicans. That's what I want to know. How come you never show up when it's time to support these plans, only later when Republicans steal them and then beat Democrats over the head then too. And people wonder why I hate the left as much as the right most days.

18. If your talking to me ...
I always have known that the dems had an energy plan. The dems usually have all of the good ideas and the repugs steal them. I really don't consider my self any particular party but I would never consider my self an repug. I believe in what is good for this country and all people not just a certain group of people.

19. But while running all around the country...
Edited on Fri Feb-03-06 04:38 PM by fiddlestix
He's wasting massive amounts of fuel!

At my job, in our lounge, there's 3 newspapers...my NY Times, my co-workers NY Post & another co-workers NY Daily News...

I read the other 2 papers to get the spin that the Times misses...and right after the SOTU, the Daily News publishes an article saying that as Bush is running all over the country tawking about conserving fuel, he is wasting massive amounts of fuel!

Oh, the horror!

I can't find the link, but he shlepps his special car in a plane that follows Air Force 1 around. Very wasteful...
