The Army is lowering standards, letting in those less educated and those who have criminal records. A pure nirvana situation for members of bush's base "conservatives" looking for an opportunity to serve their country. The Army can't meet recruiting goals.

And why can't the Army make goal with all the flag waving yahoos in our country? "Conservatives" want to kill ragheads and yet they don't take the opportunity to get a free ride over there. Could it be they are pencil dicked cowards? bush is ruining our military and his base is letting him down by not signing up to do the bidding they so proudly support. How incredibly bad does it suck to be a "conservative" in America today?

Is it trick knees? Butt pimples? Other priorities? Genetic ignorance that waivers can't account for? Please would a "conservative" share with this veteran the reasons you and your kind aren't willing to raise your right hand and swear to support and defend.

Did you ever see that video? A young liberal college student confronts some college Republicans just as they are leaving one of their meetings. He gives them some flyers urging them to join the military only to be accused of pulling some kind of "Michael Moore" stunt and then some clown confronts him and tells him that he needs to be "sensitive" to the fact that these chickenhawks have other obligations that prevent them from joining our soldiers in Iraq. He never gave an example of what these other pressing obligations were, of course.

10. Let me bore you

with a short story of my lack of sensitivity. A young lad (in his 30's) confronted me in a bar in Slidell, Louisiana in February 2003 and called me a coward because I voiced my objection to going to war in Iraq. (He started the conversation.) He said I should join the Army and go to Iraq to "prove my love of our country." I slapped my military retiree ID card on the bar along with my CPO coin and told the lad of my tour of duty in a combat zone. I then asked him to tell us all about his military duty. He said he hasn't served "yet." He left without finishing his beer. No doubt he waves the flag daily.

MY APOLOGIES TO ALL WHO HAVE READ THIS TALE BEFORE BUT I REMEMBER IT AS IF IT HAPPENED YESTERDAY. AND I CHERISH EVERY SECOND OF THAT MEMORY.

A guy I know, who was in & out of juvie for most of his youth, was ordered by a judge to join the Army or go to jail when he turned 18. He chose the Army. This was in the early 1980s.
