Building State Parties

The Democratic National Committee reported giving $9.8 million to state parties, including $250,000 in November to Virginia Democrats to help elect Timothy Kaine as governor. Kaine tonight is to give the Democratic rebuttal to President George W. Bush's State of the Union address. (actually I believe Terry McAuliffe gave VA 5 million before Dean came on board...hard to get the straight story there about timing)

The Republicans gave $3.2 million to the state parties.

``As for Howard Dean, when he first came into office, we told him we thought the most important thing he could do was building up the state parties,'' Senator Charles Schumer of New York, chairman of the Senate Democrats' fund-raising committee, told reporters on a conference call yesterday. ``He may not have as much money in the bank as we would like, but he has raised a good amount and he has spent it well on the state parties.'' Democratic spokeswoman Karen Finney said the party is spending money hiring political organizers in every state in preparation for the November elections.

``Governor Dean is investing in rebuilding the infrastructure of the Democratic Party, and we're starting now,'' Finney said. ``The governor is confident we will have the resources we need to win in 2006 and beyond.''

I saw the other day that Bayh has over 9 million in the bank, this article says Hillary has 17 million on hand...I have seen other figures about Kerry's cash on hand but can't find it now.

Schumer's DSCC for senate candidates beat the RSCC hands down this year. The DNC under Dean is trying for small donors...well good luck with that governor...they are blaming you for senate defections but keep trying...maybe we can convince them it was not your fault.

The DNC mainly funds the presidential race, and builds state parties. The DSCC and DCCC fund the candidates for House and Senate.

Buy a Democracy Bond to keep things going.

So I would say things are not so bad.
