"We need new energy sources" So sez Don Evans, standing up for
his former and current masters. He's on Tweety saying we need to develop new energy sources, in line with Bunnypantz's SOTU palaver.

HELLO-OOOOOOOO!

Like this is newz, you fuckwad. And there's Mr. Rightwing Kissass saying he thinks we need to do this too.

Does ANYONE recall this guy? And his words?

1. We need to cut back consumption more than find new energy
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 07:24 PM by Selatius
The planet simply cannot sustain human activity at this level even if we were able to find an alternative source of fuel such as inventing a far superior solar panel. We consume more natural resources than the earth can replenish, and I'm not talking about fossil fuels. I'm talking about things such as the depletion of the rainforests and timberland and the degradation of farmland through overfarming.

We are going to have to get used to the idea of giving up a lot of things and doing without many luxuries.

3. Then how come I don't see it as emphasized as the former point
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 07:32 PM by Selatius
People talk about new energy sources, but I hear very few talking about making sacrifices or having discipline. When Carter asked people to perhaps turn down the thermostat in the winter a couple of degrees and put on a sweater, or carpool, or try to walk instead of drive, or drive slower instead of faster, people bitched and weren't gonna have it.

No, the folks around back then who bitched at Carter moved into suburbia and bought gas-guzzling SUVs instead in the 1990s and moved into mcmansions that requires God knows how many BTUs of energy to heat a space far larger than is necessary for a person or family to live adequately.

Sure, it'd be nice if we could all live in nice homes and have many luxuries, but until we find a way to live in harmony with the planet at the same time, it's not a sustainable proposition.
