I can't vote for a Dem. who says "nucular"... |
|
And Evan Bayh does pronounce it "nucular." Petty but annoying. I don't even know where he stands on the issues but I can't stand 4 more years of mispronunciation.

14. It's a dead giveaway to one of two things: |
|
either the speaker is career military without much education or he's a redneck. I've never heard anyone else saying it that way, not after they got laughed at in grammar school. Rednecks and career military seem to learn slow, though.

This is one of my major pet peeves.
What part of their brains just don't work? It's willful ignorance if they don't have a pathological reason, and willful ignorance is intolerable in an elected official (it's barely tolerable in anyone, but hey that's the nature of freedom)

who claimed that I shouldn't mock Shrub for saying "nucular" because Jimmy Carter said it that way. Having never heard Carter say it, I don't know whether he really said it that way or not, but I have my doubts. But yeah, I definitely agree with you on the obnoxiousness of that pronunciation.
ON EDIT: Having now seen two others on this thread who have noted that Carter said it that way, I will have to concede that it's true. It's still annoying to hear Shrub say it, though!

How hard is it to say "nu-CLEAR"? It's CLEAR that's how it's pronounced ... I heard someone say the other day that they thought Shrub's pronunciation has more to do with subliminal desire to NUKE-YOU (LAR).

If he weren't so hell-bent on using those types of weapons (or power), he wouldn't have to use the word so frequently. If he wants to be the "war-time preznit" then he should at least PRONOUNCE the war implements correctly!
