My asshole Senator, Bill Nelson, responds to my e-mail telling
him to vote to filibuster Scalito.

Dear Mr. :

Thank you for contacting me regarding the nomination of Samuel A. Alito, Jr. to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.

After thoroughly reviewing his record and meeting him, I remained concerned that he would tilt the scales of justice in favor of big government over the average person. Justice Alito is also filling an important seat on the bench. For over 20 years, Sandra Day O’Connor was a voice of moderation for the Court. I believe that Justice Alito is not the centrist jurist for this critical seat. Therefore I voted against his nomination.

I appreciate hearing your concerns. Your communications helps me serve you better in the Senate.

BIG FUCKING DEAL ASSHOLE! I AM NOT IMPRESSED WITH YOUR SYMBOLIC VOTE AND WILL FIND A WAY TO CAST A SYMBOLIC VOTE AGAINST YOUR SORRY ASS EVEN THOUGH IT MEANS I RISK HAVING SENATOR KATHERINE HARRIS TAKE YOUR PLACE.

1. Write him back and ask him
Then WHY didn't he block the nomination.

Saying no was not good enough.

5. Read my response, below.
I'd appreciate it if people nominate this thread because you need to know that Bill Nelson is acting like a Republican. It says so in his letter.

6. To use an analogy the NRA would approve of
His "symbolic vote" is like making a show of emptying his gun, and then pointing it and saying "Halt."

2. Some of our Senators think opposition is enough.
But what we'd like from them, just once in while, is effective opposition.

This guy is already running for governor of Florida with that statement. It's obvious. I'll call him out right now: When he said "favor big government over the average person," he didn't really mean "average person," because that's not how the law reads. In the law the term would be "individuals", which anyone who knows the law knows that also includes corporations. So the courts sneakily give rights to "individuals" which really translates to corporations, or more specifically, you're talking about developers and property rights.

Property rights is a big buzz word in Florida, and even the old Guard dems like it because they're tied to law firms that specialize in development. It means that developers, not the individual, have the right to build whatever they want to, wherever they want to with the minimal intrusion from government.

Cities get bullied all the time because big land owners develop associations with well connected law-firms or planners. It's been going on for so long in Florida, that there really isn't any local government that truly represents the public. City government has been overtaken by real estate special interest. So,...

BILL NELSON IS A SELLOUT!!!!!

i would write back--at this point i don't even know that he reads anything...he too may be using people to tell him what we are saying...just like bush having people read the newspapers to him.

but i would give him an earful if i knew he'd read it.

edited to add: i've never liked bill nelson. he is not a democrat. he used to be florida's insurance commissioner years ago. and he is used to big bucks.
