PALM BEACH - It's pretty clear who Donald Trump wants voters to hire as Florida's next governor.
Trump, the mega-developer and star of TV's "The Apprentice," hosted a fund-raiser at his opulent seaside Mar-a-Lago mansion Friday night for Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist. About 400 people attended the $500-a-person event, with some getting a photo op with Crist and Trump in exchange for $5,000 in contributions.
More than a million dollars was raised for Crist's campaign, Trump said.
"It's a great honor to have Charlie with us tonight," Trump said. "I mean, there's no doubt people love the guy."
It's the second time Trump has hosted a fund-raiser for Crist, Florida's attorney general and the decisive leader in campaign contributions in Florida's race for governor. Trump, known for his "You're Fired!" catch-phrase on his TV show, also held a fund-raiser in New York for Crist last summer.
In brief remarks to the crowd, Crist said he was "overwhelmed" by the turnout and by the crowd's generosity. Crist also paid tribute to Trump, calling him a "monument to the American dream."
