Jeb's Everglades kiss off and pocket stuffing

Gov. Bush urges end to U.S. oversight of Everglades cleanup

Gov. Jeb Bush is lobbying to end federal court oversight of the state's Everglades cleanup, a move that would take the $1.1 billion project out of the hands of a judge who has accused Florida of violating its promises, according to a government official and others familiar with the case.

If the Justice Department and other federal agencies agree, Bush's intervention could lead to the end of the landmark 14-year-old court order that required Florida to begin cleansing the Everglades.

The state also would have to persuade the judge. And it is seeking the cooperation of the Miccosukee Indians, the state's most aggressive opponent in an array of Everglades pollution cases.

Bush's efforts, including a Jan. 27 meeting with federal leaders next door to the White House, have alarmed environmentalists, who don't trust the state to finish the project without supervision. Congressional budget leaders also have warned the governor's brother, President Bush, that "backsliding" on the cleanup would jeopardize federal spending on a larger $10.5 billion Everglades restoration.

"Given the power of the sugar plantations to march into Tallahassee and have the legislature do whatever they want, you do need a federal judge," said David Guest of the group Earthjustice.

3. why does jeb bush want to take 1.1 billion dollars out of the hands of a
Judge who oversees the Everglades Cleanup Project--where will JEB put the EVERGLADES CLEANUP MONEY...and whydoes he think IT is HIS money?

Do you ever wonder what happened to the citrus canker erradication money. that program has closed operation because it ran out of money.

HAS ANYONE TURNED JEB BUSH'S POCKETS UPSIDE DOWN? HOW MUCH OF THE CANKER PROGRAM MONEY WILL FALL OUT OF JEB'S OWN POCKET, I WONDER?!

10. actually, the canker eradication program was
itself eradicated by hurricanes. the state was getting canker under control but the heavy winds and rain of the hurricanes spread it again. with the forecasts for more and bigger storms, we weren't going to win that battle. it's going to kill our citrus industry.

13. it is incredible how these bushes stick up for one another...
greater and bigger hurricanes in the years to come may have something to do with global warming...something that bush junior has not even wanted to look into any programs to prevent or minimize global warming. being a florida resident, jeb should be hollering his head off to his brother...but he is doing nothing--because jeb is not a floridian, who cares about florida, or who gives a hoot about global warming, or about the planet...just like his brother. so the canker program goes out, employees by the hundreds are without jobs, and florida is to suffer consequences on both ends of the spectrum-hurricanes-global warming-and canker that will wipe out one of florida's riches industries.

11. we NEED judicial oversight . . .
Bush's efforts, including a Jan. 27 meeting with federal leaders next door to the White House, have alarmed environmentalists, who don't trust the state to finish the project without supervision.

the 'state' has been proven to be unreliable and unethical in its preservation of the everglades.

btw, a BIG thank you to our local paper, the palm beach post, for this and other reports of particular interest to the human citizens of florida.

12. To all Greens who didn't vote Gore in 2000: Ha-ha!
I remember this was a big issue then, and somehow nader convinced the Greens that Gore would be worse than W (or the same) on it....There's a sucker born every minute....

14. FL greens sure...

Don't lump all together though -- there are many who only voted for 3rd party candidates because they knew their state's electoral votes were already a lock. Those in swing states should have known better, though.
