Time to take a page from the republican playbook.
The right wing has had a lot of success by placing propositions on individual state ballots.

For example:

Same sex marriage and Gun rights.

I do a lot of voter registration and always keep voter registration forms with me where ever I go. During the last election I tried to get the Missouri Kerry campaign to focus on registration of unregistered voters, but they were convinced that we needed to focus on the undecided mythical center. I think that this is misguided and that much of the population is ready and eager for economic populist policies and that by presenting a clear alternative to the corporate fascist policies of the right we could attract millions of new voters and shift the national discussion to the left.

It is also clear to me that we will not get leadership from the inside the beltway Dems and that if we are to retake our country that the movement needs to be from grassroots. It is sad to say but many of our Democratic Senators and Congressmen pay lip service to social issues but vote with the corporations to screw the middle and working classes.

Since it is unlikely that we will ever get action on the national level why not take the battle to the state level via state propositions? Practice a little economic class warfare.

1) A limit on the interest rate that credit card companies can charge.

2)Socialized health insurance.

3) Higher minimum wage.

4)Stiff penalties (including jail time) for corporations that hire illegal aliens.

5) Voter rights

1. We'd love to do that in most states
but getting enough signatures can be problematic in very rural states. It's a lot eaiser when you're pushing hate and doing through fundy churches.

I agree that this would be a great way to increase voter turnout, though. Perhaps it's something that the DFA groups might start as a project.

3. Works for me! K&R.
I'd take more than this from the republi-CON playbook. There are lots of things those scumbags do that are worth ripping off - because they WORK, and because they WIN.

I don't care if I'm flamed for this.

It is proven fact: Dems are too nice. I want that STOPPED! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last several election cycles have proven that if you take the high road, it leads you straight over a cliff.

We HAVE to hit back, hit back hard, and yes, fight DIRTY.

I am not above mudwrestling if that's what it takes to WIN.

In politics, it's ALL about WINNING, and ONLY about WINNING.

And you can't change the tone of the national dialogue, or set the agenda, or lead the country into a genuinely kinder and better future, or govern squat - UNTIL AND UNLESS YOU WIN.

Besides, I think you get a begrudging respect from the bad guys if you beat them at their own game. They're not used to being force-fed a good stiff taste of their own medicine. Maybe that's what's needed. And we'll be glad to stop - when they do. If bush really wants to reach out and not let differences deteriorate into anger, he could start it by first CALLING OFF THE DOGS. I want to know - when he says shit like that (like I really believe it, in the first place) - whether he means it to apply to people like kkkarl rove, also.

And remember, Americans like a fighter. If you're not willing to fight hard, you become the object of scorn - and it's assumed you didn't really want it to begin with.

FUCK making nice and being ladies and gentlemen with these schmucks. Their behavior makes them undeserving of kindness and courtesy.
