Let's start a petition to DRAFT GORE, 2008
This is the man who stepped away from the race in 2004 for the good of the party, who has been the strongest voice against the Bushistas, who had people on their knees crying at his last speech, who WON THE POPULAR VOTE IN 2000.

He's the man!

14. Welcome to DU, Appalachian_American!
:hi:

I'm not certain how Gore would feel about this. Does he want to run?

That speech he gave is a good argument for the effort, though.

2. Here's a petition
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/303874397

Dear Vice-President Gore,

We petition you as concerned citizens.

This
nation needs a leader with vision, experience and passion. Americans of
every political persuasion are tired of the neglect, greed, cronyism,
corruption, and gross incompetence of the current administration. Our
next President faces the daunting task of putting the country back on
track on many domestic and international fronts.

Our nation's
economy, which stands at the brink of financial bankruptcy, requires
significant course-correction to return to the strong and robust state
that you helped build during your tenure as Vice-President. Special
interest-driven policies of the current administration imperil the
environment; your extensive knowledge and lifelong commitment are
sorely needed in crafting forward-thinking, sustainable, and balanced
environmental policies. The provisions of our social safety net
originally designed to offer a helping hand to the neediest among us
were severely undermined during the long winter of Republican
Congressional domination, and they await revitalization.

On the
international front, the unwarranted, ill-advised, and ill-waged war in
Iraq (that you firmly opposed in unequivocal terms from the beginning)
continues to burn financial resources, diminish our international
credibility and, most important, take the lives of Americans, their
allies and countless Iraqi citizens. And yet the outcome remains
uncertain. Our next President faces the task of resolving the Iraq
quagmire and mending our weakened international relationships.

Mr.
Gore, as a man of stature, intelligence, experience, visionary
leadership, and deep, well-deserved respect at home and abroad, you are
uniquely qualified to meet and master the many challenges facing the
next leader of the United States of America.

The idea of your
candidacy appeals to a broad cross-section of the electorate, and
promises to energize scores of progressive grassroots volunteers who
will stand with you every step of the way.

We ask you to take on the mantle of leadership, and accept the myriad calls for you to seek the Presidency of the United States.

Thank You.

7. I'm all for Gore. He'd be a real leader and with oil running
out we are going to need him desperately. He is ahead of the crowd on environmental issues. We have two path, war and destruction over what's left of the oil, or, Gore who would encourage americans to grow locally and build rail to conserve energy etc... and would not need to destroy the world.

8. IF he could be elected, I believe he would make an even better President
now than he would have before. He has been through the fire and come out a stronger, wiser man.

But the question is still IF he could get elected. I just don't know.

21. You're absolutely right about Gore
having gone through the fire and coming out a lot stronger. I don't even think Diebold could stop him. I think he would be a landslide candidate.

15. I'd like to see him run as an Independent
And no offense intended to the Democratic party, or anyone on DU. Dems should concentrate on house/senate seats.

Moderate and pro-choice Repubs who hate Bushco's Iraq and K Street corruption aren't likely to jump ship to vote for a Democrat. Not as long as the DLC has a stranglehold on the party and won't call for an end in Iraq, or national health care reform. They'll just cross their fingers and wait for a new Republican.

Gore could easily poll at 15% to get into the Prez debates. Once the "party affiliation" is off him, he'd have a chance to be heard as the "People's" President.

My position is on a Draft Gore campaign is...ahem...by now probably apparent.

Postscript: I'm going to add a "Draft Gore" bumpersticker to my CafePress store, just so I can buy one and hope that Gore and Tipper see it (they are moving here to San Francisco so that Al can be close to the SOMA Current TV headquarters.)

22. Yes, he would make a fine pres for this nation especially after
the stolen election of 2000. He has come out of it all as a better person and even stronger leader.

23. To be fair, he had his shot and blew it.
He WON in 2000, and didn't have the intestinal fortitude to push the issue.

In '08 the Repubs will steal the election again like they did in '04, and we need a candidate who'll have the guts to do something about it instead of meekly conceding before the 1st vote count is even over. (I'm looking at you, Kerry.)

I'd say Dean or Kucinich or Sharpton w-a-a-a-y before I'd give Gore another chance to roll over and play dead. Didn't any of you see Fahrenheit 911?

24. are you for real?
a) did you not see how pathetic he was in 2000? history is going to crumble because of him. (don't tell me it's Bush's fault, he's corrupt and insane. But from Gore we should expect more!)

b) being a strong voice does not in and of itself constitute the best man for the job, as much as I liked that speech. You have to take into account the pereception people have. ...If Wes Clark didn't exist, maybe, you'd have something.

25. Well, nice to hear from the low-post-ers. When you get 1,000 posts
and a star like me, then you can ask me if I'm "for real."

The "perception" is that this is the guy who earned half a million more votes than Bush in 2000.

27. Excellent thread,
had I been here yesterday, I would have recommended, time limit is up.

I believe the times are screaming for Al Gore to be reelected and put in the White House where he belongs, the nation and planet need him now more than ever.
